The Last Motive

Igao had wasted no time on formalities.He dove straight into the questions that we had been asking all day yesterday and even got into some that we hadn't thought to ask ourselves.

Once again we were all gathered at the long table in the center of the Dining Hall.Aya made pancakes(Minako wanted to do it but we managed to convince her not to...thank god) and we all had a fair amount stacked on our plates.Igao was slowly covering his in syrup while he asked questions.

It's weird to think of him eating sugary syrup.He is the same age as us but still,it's kinda funny.

"Do you know how we were brought here?"

Nagito nodded."Captured and brought to the woman in charge."

"Where were we found?"

"I don't know.I wasn't with the group that found you,I was doing my own thing."

Igao closed his eyes in thought."Yes,your own deeds as Ultimate Despair."

This did not faze Nagito in the slightest.He nodded.

If he keeps grinning like that then his face is going to freeze like that.

"And would you mind telling us what you were doing?"Igao looked into Nagito's pale as hell eyes."It will have no effect on how much we trust you,but I think it would be best if we knew."

Nagito nodded in agreement."I was playing a game with a little girl and her friends."

"...what?"Yoshio blanched.

"Ish dat awl?"Yoichi asked,his mouth still full of pancake.He swallowed and repeated,"Is that all?Weren't the Ultimate Despairs like...really fucked up?"

"Yeah,we knew one,we know what they're like."Aya said looking down at her plate.

"And you were playing with a little girl?"Igao asked.

Nagito nodded vigorously."Yep.Maybe sometime I'll tell you all about it,but it was a long story.All you really need to know is that a lot of people got hurt because of this game."

Igao nodded and stood up and strode to where I was sitting.

"Can I ask you to come out into the hall for a moment?"he asked.

I swallowed my pancakes and got up to join him in the hall.When we were alone he turned and asked me,

"Did you tell anyone else about your idea of us being in the simulation?"

"Huh?Oh no,and it's not my idea,it's the truth.When I found Nagito Minako explained that he came from another one."

"I see."Igao said this coldly,but I could see the vein in his forehead bulging,implying that he was more freaked out about the revelation than he was letting on.It was probably a possibility he hadn't wanted to consider.I remember how panicked I had become when I learned the truth.

"When we get out of here."I spoke up,barely allowing the hope to show in my voice."We might be able to save everyone.They could wake up again,like his friends did."

Igao nodded."So what do we say now?If you want to keep it a secret for the time being I understand why and will change the questions I have to fit that truth.However,"he looked at me pointedly."-if you want to tell them the truth now I can comply with that."

I wrung my hands.I couldn't bear to be the focus of his intense stare for much longer."Well,I don't think they should know yet.I mean the only reason everyone is relatively happy is because Nagito came along immediately.We still haven't completely gotten over Maiko's ,Takumi's ,and Tomoko's deaths.I think it would be harsh to rain on everyone's parade right now."
