The little girl guided us thought the house to Dawn. To tell the truth, I couldn't figure out how anyone would be able to found their way around. I felt lost even thought I was following someone. It would be easy to get lost. I better stay close to Victor and this little girl.
Inhaling deeply and letting it out. I tried to shake off any nerves. I was a little scared but I knew I shouldn't. But its been a long time since we saw each other face to face. The girl suddenly stopped in front of a door almost making me running into her. She spun around making the tabby in her arms follow. "Look lady. My name is River. Got that! Don't forget it." I lifted an eyebrow, she got some sassiness in her I see. I know she didn't get that from my sister.
The little girl... I mean River reached out for the door handle. Finally, I get to see my sister I thought. River turned the knob half way before saying. "I don't want to see any monkey business. Mommy is very sick and there are people after her. So if I see you come after her I will kill you."
I bent down smirking at the little runt. "And what makes you think I want to hurt her?"
"Mommy is too nice and tend to make friends with bad people. Are you bad?" River narrowed her eyes at me.
I couldn't help but smile. "Sometimes."
"I don't like you," she said.
"And I don't like you."
"Ladies," Victor said firmly, "That is enough. Open the door River."
She lowered her head as she fully opened the door. "Yes, Uncle Vic," she said. As River opened the door it felt like an eternity compared to the last thirteen to fourteen years. Slowly the child walked into the room, letting me in, and then Victor. "She's just around the corner, behind that shelf." River said pointing at the right side of the room. Nodding my head I walked around the shelf filled with flowers. Was this a green house? The place was filled with flowers.
I looked behind me afraid that maybe I was not ready. Or it was a trick, I mean who puts a woman, who is in a coma, in a green house. In my face was Victor's large chest, blocking me from seeing anything but him. "Is there a problem." Looking up his long body to see his face I shook my head and continued on.
I placed my hand on the shelf, peeking around. Just ten feet away I saw a wooden bed with a woman laying in it. An IV was hooked up to her shooting red liquid into her arm. I felt like I was walking slow motion while making my way to her. This was my sister.
Walking to the bed side I touched the white sheets that covered her. I analyzed her face. Ten years and she still looked like she was twenty. I made a quick side smile as if to say hello in silence. Looking at her hair it blond but her brown roots were showing. Touching her hair it looked to have been cut. Dawn... you broke our promise.
'Dawn,' I called out to her one September morning.
'I have to go,' Dawn patted my head with a smile. 'I gave you that charm, so you could be safe.' I looked at the charm. All it was, was a small, thin, coin shape pendant. 'You don't need me, anymore.'
Never in my life did I not need my sister. I always need her. But most importantly she need me too. 'Don't say that, I'll always need you,' she laughed at me as she slapped my right shoulder.
'Stop talking that way,' she said.
'But it's true, mom doesn't need me. She doesn't even want me. What am I going to do without you... you're leaving me.' I could feel the tears coming but I didn't dare show my sister. If I did she would have stayed. But because I pushed her to go, I was have second thoughts. I didn't want her to go. But she was doing this for me... for us. So we don't have to live like this.
