I sat in the interrogation room alone for maybe an hour. I wouldn't help but feel nervous even though I did nothing. I was so close to meeting my sister but I was pushed back because of some chick that has something against Dawn. Shaking my right leg I continued to wait. Victor was my only way out and he could be died for all I know. I can just remember Melantha throwing Victor across the room.
Brother and sister, huh? And I thought my family was screwed up. I guess we all can't be the perfect family. My mom was not really a mom. After our father gone missing, Dawn took over. She made all our meals, cleaned, did the laundry, gone to school, took care of me, and even had a small part time job. While mom started drinking, lost her good paying job, and became a woman of the night.
Because of her Dawn was targeted by mom's boyfriends. They all happened to be blood sucking vampires. Every night those bastards came over they would come in our room that we shared, and play with her. All the men ever did would touch her with their fingers as they sucked the blood from her.
Once she saw me watching and smiled at me. Told me to look away but I couldn't. She always smiled, never cried, never fought back, and she did it all for me. Because if it wasn't her, it would have been me. Sometimes I wanted to tell why she did it? Sometime I wanted to tell her that we should be runaways and find a new home.
"Who's, going to take care of mom? And what if dad comes back?" she would have said. "We're still in school Edea. We won't last long out there."
"But out there is better than here."
"Oh Edea." She smiles. "Things will change, I promise. Dad will come home and everything will be as it was before."
I knew better that dad wasn't coming home. He left us and if he did come back, life will never go back to what it was. A few weeks later Dawn was accepted to collage. She almost didn't go but I told her to do it for me and that I'll wait for her to come get me. We both wanted was best for us. And that was to leave this place.
Shortly after mom had a crazy fit and I was to live with my aunt. What my aunt didn't know was that her husband to be was a pedophile and I ran away. Talking a run in the night was not a good idea but that's how I found Father Able. He took care of me. Gave me a new name, a new person, but I could never forget my sister.
I started looking and the next thing I know she's missing. I finally found her but she's missing. That's why I became the Runaway, to protect and help people who want justice like me.
"Well," Officer Miller said when walking into the room. "How are you?" she had a folder in her right hands and an ashtray with cigarettes in the other. She walked towards the meal table and placed the ashtray and cigarettes on the table before sitting down. "Cigarette?"
"I don't smoke." I said quickly.
She nodded her head as she grabbed one, put it in her mouth, and lit it. She took one big puff and blow it in may face before she leaned back into her chair as she crossed her legs. "What's your name?"
"Mary." I said firmly.
"You got a last name?" She took another puff.
"No."
She smiled as she rolled her eyes. "Everyone has a last name."
"I lost my memory about twelve years ago." I lied. "I was wondering the streets when Father Able took me in."
"The priest in the church?"
"He gave me a name, a place to sleep and food to eat. I became a Sister a few years later. I don't know my age, my background, nothing."
