I took the bus back home. It was a long ride but i think it will be worth it. I did have enough money to go all the way to the bus station that was only a few miles away from my old home. It was 11:00 pm, only one hour away from my birthday.

I got off the bus and walked out of the dark station. Once I was out in the streets, I felt like a sore thumb. I was practically wearing rags and I probably haven't showed in weeks; maybe months. People bumped into me and gave me dirty looks as I walked down the street. I was used to it though. Shit like that didn't bother me anymore.

Only about 15 minutes of walking, a firetruck sped by. I didn't think much of it, this is Gotham stuff like this happens on a daily. I only started worrying when two more sped by, going in the same direction I was going. I saw a giant dark cloud of toxic smoke on the horizon and something told me deep down that something was wrong.

My speed of my heart started to pick up, I started out to slowly jog closer to the dark cloud that somehow stood out in the dark night sky. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw something speed by. I wouldn't of saw it if it wasn't for the street light giving off a glare. It was faster than a bullet that was fired out of a gun. Ambulances sped by, followed by three pairs of police cars. People were running away as I grew closer to my destination. I pushed my way through the crowd and came down the street to see my 'neighborhood', which was just three large apartment complexes shoved closely together, was up in ablaze.

My stomach knotted up and I felt a wave of nausea suddenly hit me. My knees gave out and I fell to the ground. I suddenly threw up the little i had in my stomach. Vomit dripped down my chin and I wiped it off with the sleeve on my tattered shirt. I stood up, my whole body trembling in fear and in shock. I looked at the flames, I could almost feel the heat of the whole thing on my face.

I heard yelling coming from far away, I turned to see where it was coming from and I saw three police men running towards me. I started to back up. The three of them started to frantically scream and shout at me, I couldn't hear what they were saying. They started to point and I turned my head to see a flare of fire shoot towards me.

I didn't move. At this point my family was certainly dead and at that point, I think I wanted to be too. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up as something shoved into me. It felt like a boulder was thrown into me. I hit the ground with a thud and I felt my heart beating.

A dark thing stood over me as I layed in fear on my back. Whatever it was, it didn't look at me. All it looked at was the red figure in the sky. The thing in the sky laughed a deep laugh and sprayed fire from a hose. The dark man-thing stood up and pulled out one of his fancy toys and shot it into the night sky. He was aiming at the blazing man in the sky, but he missed,

"Youre over Batman!" Yelled the man in the sky, his voice made my bones tremble,

The man standing over me was in fact Batman, fresh out of hiding. Had a new suit too. Nothing to fancy, still looked like a weirdo in a bat costume; a badass weirdo in a bat costume to be correct,

"Give up Firefly!" Batman yelled, his voice as gruffy as before. He pressed a button on a remote and seconds later a tank like car sped by and came to a holt in front of him, "get out of the way, citizen!" Batman yelled at me,

Out of the corner of my eye I saw Firefly take aim at Batman. Suddenly a haze of flames shot out of the nozzle and I throught fast. I lunged my scrawny homeless self at Batman and the towering man tumbled down.

Whoever this dude is, he has money this suit is something I've never tackled into before. Its almost like jumping into a pile of cash.

Batman stood back up and gave me a quick look. The batmobile rolled over to us and the back opened up and out came two roller coster seats. He guided me to the seat and I sat down. The back of the car closed itself back out and I heard the frint hatch open up, I assume Batman is in the car now. There were no windows back here, I couldnt tell what the hell is going on.

We were moving and I could feel the ground shaking below me. Gun shots was the next thing I heard, following that was the front hatch opening up. Minutes later the backseat opened up and Batman stood there with Firefly limp at his knees,

"Non-leathel rounds, hes not dead," Batman said, it seems like he was reading my mind, "it just feels like a million punches."

Firefly looked bad. His face wad burnt and so was the rest of his body, what I could see of course. His jetpack wings were broken and his mask was busted and cracked. Batman sat the guy next to me and got back into the batmobile,

"Im taking him to GCPD, theyll take care of him from there. Ill talk to you afterwards." I heard batmans voice coming from behind me,

"Sure thing dude." I said nervously mumbling.

The car started to move and less than ten minutes later we arrive at the GCPD parking garage. The backseat opened up and Batman grabbed Firefly and then the backseat closed up again. It took about a half hour until Batman came back out, almost thought he forgot about me. He got into his war machine and drove away from the police station,

"That was a quick ride." I managed to find the courage to say,

"The pedestrians know to move out of the way when they see the batmobile." Was all he said. I nodded and wiped my sweaty palms against my faded jeans,

"Look dude-" I started to say

"Did you live there?" He asked, his voice deep and rough.

I had to think for a few seconds before I could respond, I had no idea how to answer that question, "I u-used to." I spoke, my body shaking and my voice stuttering.

He inhaled through his nose that was covered by his mask and exhaled through his mouth, "I was tracking Firefly for quite some time now... its been some time since I've last encountered him. Im sorry I couldnt stop him sooner. Who lived there? Why were you there?" He asked me, kinda seemed like an interrogation,

"My parents, but they kicked me out when I was fourteen."

"They were still your parents. Im sorry. I lost my parents too." It was quiet for a while I didnt know what to say. I didnt know where we were going but it seemed like we were just driving around Gotham at this point.

"Do you have anywhere to go?" He asked

"No." I simply replied.

"I'll give you a place to go." He said in almost a mumble.

I was confused on what he said, who would want some bum living with them?

"Why?" I asked, suddenly feeling stupid for questioning the man,

"What you did back there. You saved me from being fried and you put yourself in danger. I respect that. What is your name?"

"Warner. My name is Warner Thadd." I choked out,

He didnt say anything else. Good thing too, my eyes felt like twenty pound weights and my body felt like it was gping numb. I had no idea where I was going.

My tiredness soon got the best of me. I struggled to keep my eyes open. Soon I gave up the fight and I feel asleep.
