Chapter 29—Notch

Klara's POV:

From: My Lookalike

Vin's gonna be over soon so let him in pls. I'll be there in a bit!

I blew out a breath, locking my phone and letting it drop to my side on the bed. Of course, I was once again home alone—thanks to my three day suspension—and was currently doing as what Mum told me by studying for a maths quiz I knew was coming up. Much to my relief, though, Mum had caved and gave me my phone back once she saw how I spent the first two days of my suspension—actually getting some work done. Now it was the last day, and I knew more about the crap I was learning at school than ever.

Believe it or not, my bed was covered in papers and books were spewed about as I taught myself chapter after chapter in different classes. Much to my own surprise, I listened to Mum through-and-through; focusing more on my studies as I caught myself up to speed. Maybe now people—not only Mum—will realize there's more to me than some party girl/model.

Granted, it was a reputation I gained without so much as a fight to try and protest against it, but I was slowly growing tired of it. Going out and having a good time was something I loved to do—we all need a break from the harsh spotlight we grew up in—but I was sick of the constant criticism I was prone to receiving in return of my actions. I don't think I'll understand how my dad or his band ever survived spending years under a magnifying glass that allowed the world to watch their every move.

As I solved yet another math equation that I at first didn't understand, I heard the doorbell ring throughout the house. Sliding the binder off my lap and on to the bed, I got off and made my way out of the room and down the stairs towards the door. It was freezing, so I was dressed in a pair of sweatpants and a sweatshirt, not at all looking like the model you'd see on the billboards but not caring about my appearance, either.

Unlocking and pulling the door open, it revealed Vin standing on the other side; dressed in a pair of jeans, a black jacket, and blue eyes a bit widened from what seemed like slight panic. "What's wrong with you?" I couldn't help but ask, quirking an eyebrow as I stepped aside to let him in.

He walked in, shoving his keys in the back pocket of his jeans as he said, "There's a lot of people outside of your house. Kind of went crazy on my car when I drove in."

Shutting the door, my brows furrowed as I turned around to watch Vin as he set down his bag and shrug off the coat he wore to reveal an unzipped hoodie that had a black Led Zepplin shirt underneath. I couldn't help myself from asking, "Are you, like, okay?"

Vin glanced at me, pausing for a millisecond before nodding as he ran his fingers through his jet black hair. "Yeah, your guard let me in quickly," he said with a slight sigh, subconsciously tugging at the hem of his sweatshirt.
