Chapter 49—Meet the Parents

Leah's POV:

"I'm going to fail. I'm going to fail this exam and then fail out of school and die with not even a university's level of education."

Klara, Vin, and Dylan all stared at me with expressions that could be a mix between exasperation and pure amusement as I leaned back far enough until I was laying on the bed, hands coming up to cover my face with my eyes. My groan was muffled by the palms of my hands until I felt someone grab both of my wrists and lower them, my eyes landing on the culprit, which happened to be Vin. "You'll be fine," he assured me, picking up his pencil before adding, "For physics, at least. I've been tutoring you for months now so if you don't pass I might just choke you."

My jaw dropped at his words, glaring at my sister and Dylan who snorted and snickered, respectively, before sitting up and pouting. "This is awful," I whined, puffing my cheeks out.

The boys were currently over at our house, and the four of us were in my room as we studied for our upcoming final exams. I was on my bed, my textbooks, notes, and laptop spread all on the mattress as Vin returned to sitting on the floor in front of the bed next to Klara, while Dylan sat on the chair at my study desk. Exams week always got me stressed out, but since this was our last year before graduating, the stress seemed to multiply tenfold because the grades had to be perfect.

Dylan shifted in his chair, right arm slung over the back of it as he sat sideways, raising his brow at me as he snorted, "Since when are you such a pessimist?"

Klara didn't bother looking up from her laptop as she quipped, "Yeah, Lee, that's my job. You're the happy twin, remember?"

I puffed my cheeks, releasing a sharp breath as I dropped my hands to my lap and pouted, "Maybe I should just become all dark and twisty like you."

My sister chortled, finally sparing me a glance as she shook her head, "one of me is bad enough. Keep your optimism—makes you glow," she added in a teasing tone.

I narrowed my eyes at her as Dylan grinned widely, pointing at me with a pen as he practically exclaimed, "Like a princess!" which prompted me to scoff and pick up a pillow behind me before hurling it in his direction, watching as he easily deflected it with his arm that caused it to hit Klara, who cried out, "Oi! Watch it!"

Vin and I laughed at her annoyed tone as she picked up the pillow to hit Dylan back, and before a pillow fight broke out, Vin spoke up with a snicker, "Alright, we're never going to get any studying done if you guys bicker like kids."

"What's the point?" I hunched my shoulders, the pout returning to my lips as I gazed at the several papers lying in front of me. "I'm gonna fail anyway."

The black haired boy looked at me, narrowing his blue eyes as he pointed an accusatory finger at me. "I will seriously never speak to you again if you fail your physics exam. I've been tutoring you for months and I know for a fact that I did it right."

Klara snorted as I scoffed. "Surprisingly I think physics is the only exam I'll pass."

Dylan rolled his eyes, his voice dripping with sarcasm as he claimed, "That's the spirit."
