Chapter 12—Safe Twin

Leah’s POV:

          “Happy anniversary!”

Both of my parents jumped in surprise at the sound of mine and Klara’s voices, staring at us with wide colored eyes and smiles on their faces. Today was Mum and Dad’s eighteenth wedding anniversary, and every year since Klara and I turned thirteen, we’d make them breakfast in the morning and then give them some kind of present.

Even Klara, no matter how much of a nonbeliever she was when it came to romance—and even though Mum had grounded her—would help me when it came to our parents’ anniversary. She loved them just as much as I did, and one of the top things both of us wanted was to make our parents happy and make them feel loved. So, of course, we used their anniversary to our advantage.

Mum, who had a grin on her face, walked over to Klara and I and gave us a hug. “Aw, my girls—you two are so sweet.”

“We try,” Klara shrugged, chuckling as Dad gave us both a kiss on the forehead.

He looked at the food on the dining table, smiling fondly. “This all looks amazing, girls,” he said.

The two of us had prepared pancakes, oatmeal, and French toast—along with coffee for Mum and tea for Dad. As they sat down at the table, Klara nudged me, and I looked over at our parents. “We have something else for you, as well,” I stated, a smile forming on my face as they looked at us. “Okay, so Mum—remember how you told me about that cruise you’ve been dying to go to?”

Mum sipped her coffee, her eyebrows furrowing together in suspicion. “Yes…” she said, her voice trailing off cautiously.

“Well,” I continued, shooting Klara a knowing grin which she mirrored before I turned back to our parents. “Klara and I put some of our money together and got you guys that 14 day Mediterranean cruise on the Caribbean Princess!”

Mum almost choked on her coffee as Dad stared at us with wide, green eyes, glancing at each other before looking at us. “You girls didn’t have to do that,” Dad said, chuckling disbelievingly. “That must’ve cost you both a fortune.”

“Nah,” Klara dismissed with a wave of her hand. “Leah and I have been taking some money out from the shoots we’ve been doing for the past month and were saving it specifically for this,” she explained, before pulling her hands out from behind her back and giving Mum and Dad their tickets. “You guys leave this Sunday afternoon.”

Mum looked down at the ticket in her hand, a smile on her face as she looked at Dad. “I’m pretty sure we have the best daughters ever.”

Dad grinned, glancing at Klara and me and nodding. “I’m pretty sure we do.”

*~*~*~*

“You both behave, alright?” Mum warned, giving me a hug. “I don’t wanna have to call Louis or Liam to spy on you both.”

I let out a laugh. “Mum, if anything, Uncle Lou would join us in whatever we might do.”

Mum rolled her eyes, shaking her head. “You’re probably right,” she said with a chuckle, picking up her bag. “You two will be okay by yourselves, right?” she questioned for the hundredth time, looking at both Klara and I.
