Chapter 39—Queen
Klara's POV:
January 20th was quickly approaching, which was the day for Mum and Dad's wedding. Almost everything was set, thanks to Dad, except for the fact that I didn't have a date. Better yet, because I hadn't asked anyone to go with me. And by anyone, I admittedly meant Vin. It'd be wise of me to ask him as soon as I could, seeing as the wedding was in Italy and he'd need sufficient time to make sure he was available for the trip. The sooner I asked him, the better—not only to be my date, but also to get Mum and Leah off my back about asking him.
It's a good time to ask him right about now, seeing as he's downstairs tutoring Leah.
So I headed downstairs, walking towards the dining room where I knew the two were. Just as I walked in, Leah had gotten up and left the room without noticing me, while Vin remained seated with his back towards me. Grinning to myself, I stopped right behind him, before placing my hands on his shoulders and greeting, "Hey," which only served to cause Vin to jump in his seat.
"Jesus Christ!" he exclaimed in surprise, swiveling around in his chair as he looked up at my snickering face, narrowing his eyes at me. "Thanks for giving me a heart attack, Klara. I've always wanted to die at eighteen."
I couldn't help but let out a laugh at his dramatics, squeezing his shoulders before moving to take Leah's seat, scooting closer to him as I rested my elbows on my knees and interlaced my hands in front of me. "I've something to ask you," I said, meeting his gaze as it became one of curiosity.
Vin put down his pencil, shifting to face me as well as he mirrored my seating position. "Okay, what's up?"
It was so damn easy to get lost in his eyes; which were such a light shade of blue, they were almost translucent. They were bright and big and beautiful, and I was jealous I didn't have the same shade of eyes as him, but was glad that his eyes were the ones I found myself getting lost in. Clearing my throat, I began, "Well, I'm sure you know how my parents are, y'know, getting married, right?"
He quirked a brow, giving me a slow nod. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure the whole world knows," he replied, chuckling in amusement. "What about it?"
Briefly licking my lips, I squeezed my hands, mentally berating myself for feeling so nervous in front of this boy with the baby blue eyes and innocent face, as I tried to ask him a simple question. "I was wondering," I began, my gaze dropping from his as I looked at my hands, "if you wanted to, maybe, go with me? As, like, my date."
Forcefully, I flickered my gaze up, catching sight of Vin's pleasantly surprised face as his eyes looked at me, and I could tell he was trying to process my words, just as I was. Never had I ever had to ask someone out on a date—people asked me, and I'd reject them. This was something new for me, beyond anyone's comprehension, and what made it worse was the fact that I was actually so nervous for Vin's answer, because a part of me was fearful that he'd say no.
My party going self was just that—a party girl. If I ever had relations with anyone, it would be because I met them at a party or at a club and hooked up with them, no strings attached. The last serious boyfriend I had was in, like, year nine, if you'd even call it that. It lasted for about a week and a half, and since then I had never gotten in another relationship—whether that was on purpose or accidental, I didn't care.
