Chapter 2.1 - A Date?!

It was a week ago, during one of Yumi's training sessions with Jay, that she popped the question.

"So Jay, you want to come with me to my school's Halloween costume party?"

While she unleashed her firebolts between glass bottles and into empty cans, she threw him that sudden invitation. Jay stared at her in surprise.

That was certainly unexpected. The girl had been going on about how her private school often held events like that. Talk about a difference in class; his own school barely had that kind of budget.

At the same time, it would be fun. The last time Jay had gotten a chance to play dress-up was back when he was little. No, scratch that, the last time he did so was when he was trying to cheer up Rebecca when she was having another bout of depression from being trapped in the hospital, although that could hardly be considered a party.

There was one part he did find a little too good to be believed, however.

"You mean, like, as your date?" he clarified.

"What else, silly? It's not like you'd be there as my chaperone."

A date! Her date! If he could jump for joy, he would, but that was going to be way too embarrassing in her presence.

Whether or not he still had feelings for the long missing Rebecca, he couldn't deny that he really liked Yumi and felt attracted to her; so her asking him out sounded too good to be true.

Indeed, in his excitement, he completely ignored the usually perceptive side of himself that thought something still didn't line up with what he was thinking, even if it couldn't figure it out.

Either way, that wouldn't stop the infatuated young man from feeling giddy for the rest of the day.
