Slash after slash, parry after parry, Ryan deflected each and every one of the giant's attacks.
The moment he and his opponent were within line of sight, the shorter swordsman shoved the pain of his injuries to the back of his mind and quickly closed the gap between them, drawing his single-bladed sword.
He had good reason. The giant's own sword was not only twice the length of his own, but it had a secondary function, the product of mad ingenuity. The broadsword had a blade on each side and a shape akin to a claymore, while down its center was a long shaft leading up to the open muzzle of a gun.
Not just any gun either, but a high-powered shotgun, the one type of firearm that Ryan could not deflect or dodge easily. Normally, Ryan's solution to an encounter with those using such a weapon was to shoot first with his own handgun, but his enemy's unique ability posed another problem.
