Jay dropped two soda cans and three packs of microwaveable meals on the convenience store counter along with his payment. His eyes were unfocused as he held his head down in deep thought.
"Something up, Jay?" Carson asked his regular customer while he opened up the register.
The young man blinked. "Huh? Oh, nothing. Just thinking, that's all."
Carson grinned widely. "Girl trouble?"
Jay looked sideways sheepishly. "You could say that."
