James Richard Haniel locked eyes with the small girl in the white kimono, a dazzling beauty with skin as pale as snow and short, dark, wavy hair that glittered like starlight. Her eyes were a cold, clear blue, like the sky on a winter's day.

There was something about them that both enraptured him and set off alarm bells. Then he realized it: her eyes were not the same as Jeanne's deep blue. Unlike his landlady, the eyes of this girl felt a little out of place; she was a full Asian, a race which should not have blue eyes normally. There was definitely something supernatural about them, not unlike the amber orbs of Jay's pinkish-haired date.
