Chapter 18

"Umm, let me introduce you to the guys." Dodge said trying to ease the

tension, that had built.

I nodded. I had killed someone. It was an accident. I didn't do it on purpose.

Does it matter? Did that make me a murderer? Or was thatman slaughter? I

was starting to grow hysterical with my thoughts and my hands grew

warmer. I took some deep breaths and the fire stopped.

"This is Alex, Dan, Cameron, Denny, and Curt." He said as he pointed to each

one as he said their name. "Kyle and Ben just ran off."

They all looked the same. Except the eyes. Some had bright gold irises, but

then some had dull yellow-orange. There was a pattern. The ones with gold

eyes had dark hair. Like brown or black. But the ones with light blond, or

brown had the yellow orange ones. There's no point in remembering their

names, they probably all hate me, I will have to leave.

They all smiled at me, and said hello. "Are you staying?" One asked. It was

Alex. I remembered him because he had beautiful gold eyes and the darkest

black hair. He was one of a kind.

"If I'm allowed, I don't have anywhere else to go." I said in surprise. Did they

want me to stay?

They all laughed. "We have never abandoned one of us." Dodge said.

"But what about Ben..." I said.

"Don't worry about him. We'll make it work." Another said.

I wanted to get to know them more when the spot behind me started to

rustle.

Ben came out into the clearing and looked at me. He had heard our

conversation.

He spoke. "Kyle's gone." His voice was thick with tears. "He left. I tried to

talk to him, but he's gone. His brother..." Ben's voice faltered.

"It's okay. We'll find him. Trust us." Dodge said.

I closed my eyes. It was all my fault.

I watched all of them except Dodge change and run into the forest. Dodge

looked at them. He wanted to go help search, I could tell.

"You can go." I said to him. "Please. You should go and find him."

"No, Ben told me to give you a cabin." Dodge said.

"Okay, which one is mine?"

"That one." He pointed. "We usually have two to a cabin so we only use like

four cabins. But I don't think you would want to you know share a cabin with

a guy." His face turned red.

"Okay umm, let me get my duffel." I walked to where my bag had dropped

from my hands and picked it up. I walked to the cabin, my cabin and opened

the door.

The inside was simple. There were two bunk beds. So four people can sleep

here. There was a vanity and a full size mirror on the wall. A dark black rug

covered the middle of the hard wood floor.

"No one has been in here for a long time." I heard Dodge mumble. "Well I'm

going to leave you here to unpack." Then he walked out the door.

I watched him leave when I saw a simple brass lock. At least I can keep

people out. But that lock wouldn't hold for a wolf. Or something worse.
