Chapter 24

Hazels Pov

I felt myself falling. I fell on my stomach, knocking the air out of me. My hair

fell in my face, so I couldn't see. I heard my name, calling over and over. But

the words blended together, in a mush of sound. My arms burned, and my

blood felt warm, and sticky on my neck. I closed my eyes as strong arms

picked me up.

"Your safe now Hazel." I heard. It was Dodge. I put my head on his

shoulder's and let myself fall asleep.

...

Dodges Pov

We all rushed to her. I picked her up and she pushed her head into my

shoulder's. She felt so light, and I could feel her labored breathing. We jogged

home, and when we got there, I walked Hazel to her cabin, and laid her down

on her bed. I stayed with her all night, as did Ben and Alex. The other's went

back to bed.

The first rays of sunlight showed through the window, when Hazel woke up.

She looked horrible, her hair matted with blood, her neck and forehead were

clammy, and her shoulder's  were blood red, from being torn.

She looked around, still dazed, she moved her arms. Her eyes watered from

the pain.

It hurt me, to see her like this. I put a hand on her fevered head, she closed

her eyes again, and fell back asleep. She must of felt safe because her

breathing changed, to a easy tired throb, and her temperature went down.

I looked at Ben, his head was down, asleep. Alex was still awake, he looked at

me. "You can go to sleep now." I said. He nodded and walked away.

I stayed with Hazel. I just couldn't leave her.

Hazels Pov

I woke up. This time I forced myself to stay awake. I saw Dodge sitting in a

chair, asleep. Why was he here? I tried to sit up, but it hurt my neck to

much. I just laid there until I saw Dodge's eyes flutter. He looked around,

and remembering were he was he looked at me. His expression changed to,

pity? No, it was worry.

"Oh Hazel..." His voice sounded sluggish, as if he's been awake till a few

minutes ago. "Can you speak?"

"Yes." My throat burned, and my voice was cracky. "Why are you here." I

rubbed my neck and winced. It wasn't just sore, it was cut. What the hell

happened last night.

"You don't remember?" He asked.

"No! What the hell happened?!" I shouted. I looked at my shoulders, they

were red, and cut. I grabbed my mirror off the bed side table and looked at

my face.

All the air left me. The face in the mirror didn't look at all like me. The face

and neck had so many gashes. The eyes looked dull and dead, with black

bags underneath. Everything came back to me. The girl Alyssa standing over

me with the bloody knife. The pain, I had endured. Me yelling Dodge's name

over and over again.

Tears ran down my cheeks.. "D-Dodge." I stuttered. "Please tell me that

didn't happen last night. Say that I fell down the stairs or something."

He didn't say anything. But he grabbed my hand and held it tight. My sobs

echoed off the walls. He then pulled me to him and he held me, until I could

breathe again.

"It's okay, scars will heal." He said soothingly. "Pain will go away."

"But I'll never forget what happened." I snapped. "Sure everything else will

leave, but now I am probably going to be some paranoid freak! Just leave!" I

just wanted him gone. He thinks I'll get over it, yeah right.

"But Haz-" He started.

I cut him off. "Just leave now! I want to be alone!"

He looked reluctant, but he got up and left. I started to sob even harder. I

thought that making him leave would be easier. But now that he's gone, I feel

even emptier.
