Chapter 25

When Dodge left I looked at my clock. No way! I had slept for two days. It

was early morning. A Sunday morning. Usually on a normal Sunday I would

go to my grandma's house. We would stay there all day, I would be bored

while my parents acted like they were actually enjoying themselves.

A knock on my door broke my thoughts. "Hazel." A guy said. "Can I come in?"

"Yeah, wait which one are you?" I asked, blushing. I felt stupid. Thank god it wasn't Dodge. I can't handle him anymore. He acted out of pity and I hate pity.

"I'm Alex obviously."He chuckled.

Alex walked across the room and sat next to me. He looked at my puffy eyes and my cuts.

"I came to give you something." He said. His eyes were gorgeous, a light gold

with specks of silver in them. Every once in a while he had to move his black

hair out of his face.

"What?" I said still mesmerized by his stare.

"Here." He pulled a necklace out of his pocket. It was simple, a thin gold

chain with a gold and emerald heart locket. It was beautiful. It matched me

perfectly.

"Oh my god Alex." I gasped. "It's beautiful! Where did it come from?"

"It was my sister's. She left when she was twelve. " He said. He unclasped it

and clipped it around my neck.

"Thank you. It's beautiful." I said. "If you don't mind me asking, why did she leave?"

He took a ragged breath. "It was my fault. I ran away when she was ten. We

both hated our parents, she wanted to come with me but I told her no. If I

had to lug around a ten year old we'd get caught for sure."

He stopped, and I waited for him to continue.

"For two years I was on the run. When one day I walked by our house. I

hadn't been there since I left but I thought it was time to take my sister with

me. I climbed the fire escape to her room. I went in the window. All that was

there was a note. With my name on it.

I panicked. I grabbed the note and it said:

Dear Alex,

I can't take it anymore. You left me for two years. How could you, I thought

you loved me! You left me with horrible people, they beat me, hurt me, and

you don't care! If you ever see this just remember, you ruined my life. One

day I will ruin yours. I used to look up to you, and when you promised to

come back for me you never did. One day I'll see you again, and I'll get my

revenge. You were a sorry excuse for a brother.

-Alyssa."

He looked at me. and said. "Yes its the same Alyssa. The one who now is a

vampire. The one who almost killed you the other day."

"Your kidding right?" I asked hesitanlty my mouth hanging open.

"No. She really is my sister." Alex said.

"But you said she ran away!" I said.

"I really don't care if she had run away, or if she was dead. She's a vampire,

practically one with death." He looked sad.

I touched the necklace. I pictured an eleven year old Alyssa wearing this

beautiful chain.

"What color were her eyes?" I asked him.

"What does that have to do with anything?" He looked at me weirdly.

"Just asking."

"Blue, they were bright blue." He said while he closed his eyes. As if

remembering what they were. "That was the first time since I left her that

I've seen her. She didn't even notice me. Maybe she's forgotten." He laughed.

"Yeah right."

"How old is she now?" I asked.

"Well she would be seventeen. But I think she's forever stuck as twelve."

Alex said.

"Oh wow. So that means when I'm a vampire I will be-" I started.

He cut me off. "It doesn't really matter does it? Its not like your going to be a

vampire any time soon."

"Well you never know." I snapped.

He grabbed my arms. With such strength it brought tears to my eyes. He

made me look at him. "Nothing is worse then being a vampire! Did you see

what it did to her? It made her a power hungry monster. She's evil now!

Promise me you will never change into one of them. Promise!"

"I can't do that." I whispered. "Maybe one day I won't have of choice."

"Promise!" He shouted at me.

I shrank back. "Fine I promise." I said weekly.

He didn't look satisfied but he let go. He stared at me.

"Maybe you should go now." I said.

"In a second. I want to try something." He said.

"What are you taling abo-" I couldn't finish. He put his lips on mine. Gentle

as if I was breakable. And he stayed there for what seemed like hours. He

pulled away and got up. And with one last look at me he walked out. Leaving

me dazed and wondering what the hell just happened?
