I'm Not Acting

Camilla stood next to me. She seemed much happier since the last time we had spoken. She was very bright, her long purple curls tied up in her signature braid, and a smile was nearly etched permanently on her face. She had her hands on her hips as she stared the the request board with me. "See anything?"

"Not yet, let me keep looking." I replied. I was glad Camilla was back like herself. She was certainly better than having Fayette Strauss tagging along. At least Camilla had common sense.

Out of nowhere, Camilla squealed. She was pointing at a particularly short request. "Let's do this one!" She sounded like Neva does; a child. I read the request, and understood why Camilla wanted to do this one:

Actors needed! Scheherazade Theater Group is having a show on Saturday in the Onibus Theatre, and we are in need of actors to play the parts. Will pay 5,000 Jewels to takers!
-Rabian, Theater Manager

I understood why Camilla wanted to do this, only from hearing stories of Erza Scarlet, her mother, being theatre crazy back when she was on Team Natsu. I guess that passed into Camilla's passions, because the girl was struggling to keep still and was trembling in anticipation like crazy.

"Can we do this one?" She asked me.

I shrugged. "Only if Storm agrees. Go ask him." I didn't have the guts to speak to Storm in the given moments, I realized as Camilla ran away to ask him. I saw Storm nod, and I sighed. I guess we were going to be actors today.

We arrived at the Onibus Theatre, and I saw Rabian irritably talking to himself by the door, as he paced along the steps. Camilla got his attention, and he jumped as he snapped out of his daze.

"Yes, yes! Are you the group from Fairy Tail?" He asked excitably.

As soon as we nodded, he threw costumes into our arms. "What's the play abou-" I couldn't even finish my sentence before he sent us inside to change. I really hoped this wasn't a ridiculous costume...

I looked in the mirror. It could be worse.

The costume was simply a red dress and brown boots. I still had no idea what our play was about, but by the looks of my outfit it probably wasn't going to be too obnoxious.

Stepping out of the dressing room, I saw the others. Storm was wearing a black leather suit, and Camilla was wearing... "What the hell?" I asked her. She was wearing a dragon costume, with the cheap green plastic scales hanging off the huge, worn costume. But Camilla seemed quite content in it.

Storm clicked his tongue. "Wait-- if this play is about a a dragon, shouldn't Nashi...?"

"Apparently not," I said. Storm turned around. He hadn't seen me yet.

Rabian's clapping interrupted us. "Show starts in 10 minutes!"

"But we don't know our li--" Camilla tried to say, but Rabian cut her off as he fixed her dragon mask.

"Make something up!" Rabian shouted as he left the room. Then he peered his head back in. "Just bring me a crowd!"

"We're screwed." Storm sighed.

Ten minutes passed as we waited in our costumes. I peered out of the curtains, and saw a small crowd, fifty people at the most. Rabian called us on to the stage.

The narrator, played by Rabian, began to speak. "There once was a lonely dragon, cursed by an evil witch. He was stranded in the forest, where he had been banished by the kingdom. Nobody knew the dragon was in fact a prince, trapped in the dragon body."

Camilla walked onstage, wearing her ratty old costume. "If only my parents, the king and queen, knew that their beloved son was in fact a dragon..." She said nostalgically. Camilla was a good actor.

Rabian spoke again. "But one day, a lost peasant girl wandered into the forest looking for fruit for her family..." Rabian pushed me on to the stage, as I was playing the peasant girl. "And she ran into the dragon."

It was really hard making this up as I go. "Well hello there!" I tried sounding shocked, but my voice cracked at the audience giggled.

Camilla looked at me and roared causing green smoke to emit from her mask using special effects. I staggered back, surprised. I could tell she was as well.

We both walked in opposite ways off the stage as Rabian narrated again. "The dragon kept the peasant girl prisoner captive for many months. But as time went on, the girl was no longer wanting to escape. She knew the dragon very well after a while, and they became like family. The dragon loved the girl very much, but he didn't know if she felt the same. In his mind, he was in the agony of having feelings hidden within."

Long story short, many scenes passed where me and Camilla were acting like family. Towards the end, we had gotten in a fight through our characters. Camilla was very convincing as an actor, she sounded actually offended. "Nobody could ever love a monster like me!" She screamed.

I stepped closer, building the moment. I found it awkward knowing that inside the suit was another girl, and I was straight... "I do." I whispered. I looked over at the audience, and they were on the edge of their seats.

I leaned in, and thank god the smoke covered their sights so I didn't actually have to kiss Camilla. She ran off the stage and quickly swapped places with Storm. Before the smoke disappeared, I kissed Storm. What? It was acting. But while my lips were on his, I really wished Camilla and him hadn't chosen this job, as I remembered how he had spoken with the Redfox twins earlier today.

"Look, Nashi is totally adorable but I don't think she likes me like that. Anyway, we have missions to do. We need to focus on our jobs, and my mother doesn't like Lucy much anyway, much less her daughter."

When my mind returned to the present, I realized that the smoke was gone and I had been kissing Storm as hard as I had been back when he almost died. I pulled away, my face completely pink with blush.

He smiled, and honestly I couldn't tell if Storm was acting or not. "I love you. Thank you for accepting me for who I am."

"I l-love you just the way you are." I said, face heated up, and the play ended. The curtains closed.

Rabian ran in and thanked us with dramatic tears in his eyes. "That was wonderful! It brought tears to my eyes!" He walked away to thank the audience, and Camilla was staring at me from the side of the stage.

She pulled the dragon head off. "Thank god that's over. This costume smells disgusting." Camilla left to go change.

"Great acting." I complimented Storm.

He smirked at me. "I wasn't acting."

That just about killed me. I walked away quickly, running to the dressing rooms and changing. I wanted to scream at that boy so badly. What the hell does he want!? Does he love me or not? I don't even understand.

I just can't wait to get back to the guild.
