Before you read, I must apologize for this crap chapter. I have awful writer's block, but I really am trying to update. It's been a few weeks and trust me, I'm trying to keep up with this.
Thank you for those of you who keep reading. :)
My ear had stopped bleeding from the fairly large cut that it had on it, but I couldn't help but think deeply about who had thrown the dagger. And who the hell could aim so near to perfectly!? I mean, they had thrown that little knife at least a few yards and missed by a mere couple of millimetres."Hurry up, Nashi!" I heard Camilla's masculine voice call to me. We had left the cafe an hour ago, and we were going around figuring out some small bits of information on the killer from the townsfolk.
"Coming!" I shouted, straining my legs to keep running.
Camilla scowled. "We don't have time to mess around. But then again, you are a Dragneel..." She ended with a snarky tone.
Storm snickered.
I frowned. "Hey, lay off! Storm, you're Juvia and Gray's son, I'm surprised you're not either stripping or crying all the time!" I ended with a slight laugh.
Camilla's face had a strange look. "You make it sound like you want him to strip..."
"H-hell no! Okay whatever let's focus!" I shouted, my face turning bright crimson while the other two laughed hysterically. They were weirdos, to say the absolute least.
After they finally stopped picking on me, we began to think seriously. "If I were an assassin, where would I be...?" Storm pondered aloud.
"You're too loud to be an assassin, you idiot." Camilla snapped. "Now concentrate, where should we look?"
"I think we should ask around." I suggested. "Maybe the people who live in this city will know? In Crocus, a lot of rumors begin and go around here." The other two shrugged and went along with it.
We seemed to be in some kind of loophole. We'd hardly ever been on jobs like this... and this is only my fourth or fifth job anyway. The three of us went around to different places around Crocus, and we decided to start in the southern, less busy region.
"You know, I have a friend who lives around here." Camilla commented. "They had been a traveller from around here, and they'd passed by Fairy Tail a long time ago. But then they left after a few days, so abruptly. I wonder what happened to them..?" Camilla trailed off in thought.
Around southern Crocus, there were a few small clusters of shops and housing. That's it, despite it being part of the Capitol of Fiore. We decided to ask the shop owners and citizens about any mysterious deaths and such... but I doubt there'd be much on the topic. Even if the assassin was notorious in Fiore, if he/she was anonymous, than nobody would know who they were. And if they did, they wouldn't know much.
The first thing we did was try a small stand that was selling pointless and worthless trinkets for a high price. Waste of time; the man who was working at the stand wasn't willing to tell us anything if we didn't buy anything. But I'm not wasting money on things I don't need.
And the next four people we asked were worthless as well. We were getting nowhere! At this rate, this would either become a decade quest or the entirety of Crocus would be killed by the assassin before we would be done! We were just about to give up, and I was at the end of my short-fused temper.
As Storm, Camilla and I were leaving the fourth stand owner, someone put their hand on my shoulder. I saw an old couple, a man and a woman, and they both looked very weary. "We heard," The woman spoke.
"Huh?" Storm questioned, the idiot.
"The assassin. We know. You're after her." The old woman looked like a fragile old thing, so delicate that if she so much as was tapped by a finger she'd shatter like glass. "She killed my kid. My daughter. She is dead." The lady spoke in short fragments of sentences, and her husband wouldn't even speak at all; his eyes were glassy and he almost looked ghostly.
Camilla stepped in front of me to converse with her. "Yes, we are in search of the notorious assassin. Do you know anything about her? Like her name? Or... anything really. We're kind of desperate." Camilla added underneath her breath.
The woman nodded. "Yes. Her name. Ketseuki Ishi. She was once a friend. She is a traitor. She killed Amber." I assumed Amber was her daughter.
So Ketseuki Ishi. That is the assassin. I never would have guessed. Well, I didn't know her. I just expected the assassin to be a more well-known than a name like that. But it's certainly hard for me to forget; Ketseuki Ishi.
"Do you know Ishi's whereabouts?" Camilla asked the old woman and her husband.
"No. Have not seen Ketseu. It's been years." She answered solemnly. "Not since Amber."
Camilla and I dipped our heads to them. "Thank you," I said. "We are determined to catch Ketseuki." But we are really far from getting anywhere. Knowing her name is something, but without knowing Ketseuki's whereabouts, how do we know she hasn't fled Crocus entirely yet?
Wait. She cut my ear just earlier today.
She's here.
She's in Crocus.
I can feel her whereabouts. She's close to us now.... Oh my god! She's in the area!
And it turns out I was right. Ketseuki Ishi was close, but I'm afraid I was just a few seconds late...
I'm both happy and sad to say that this story will end in just five chapters or less.
Being that the guild is continuous, the story will go on. But I will cease writing it; understand what I mean here, please.
But it is ending soon.
I promise I will try to update weekly, but there are no promises.
