A Not-So Delightful Dance

I went back inside, and I tried to ignore everything I had just heard between Camilla and Storm. Maybe I was just dreaming? Yes, I'll just go with that. Oh who am I kidding? Even I don't believe that crap. I just tried to enjoy the Christmas party.

I drifted to the living room, or-- a ballroom, I guess. The Redfox Manor was extremely large, each room about the size of the guild hall. I heard that Gajeel and Levy had went on a decade quest and earned a huge amount of money, and that's how they had afforded this house. After that, they just settled down and started a family.

Someone ran into me from the back, and when I turned around, I saw my mother. She had her long blonde hair tied up in a ponytail and was wearing a fancy blue dress. She smiled at me genuinely. "Hey, Nashi, dear!" She laughed. Lucy was extremely happy. "You need to go have fun, and enjoy yourself! Dear, it's a party. You need to have fun every once in a while. Okay? Go dance!"

She was distracted as another person tried to talk to her. I looked for my friends, but it was hard to see anyone I knew in this crowd of people.

Dancing broke out in the middle of the room, and before I knew what was happening, everyone had a partner to dance with. I saw Camilla with Pythios on the other side of the room. And I was just that awkward loner who was too shy to dance.

A hand grabbed mine. What was happening was just so cliché, but I couldn't help but love it. I was face-to-face with Storm Fullbuster, the boy I loved but wasn't quite sure how to feel about. His hand was on my back and my hand rested on his shoulder. This party wasn't meant to be a ball, but it sure looks like it turned into one.

"You look lovely." He said.

"Whatever." I said bluntly, and he spun me.

We didn't even speak. We slowly danced, and for some reason, I wasn't nervous at all. I was holding hands with Storm, we were dancing, but I felt no emotion. No blush, no heartbeat, no anything. I glanced over at the other pairs in the room, spotting Fay and Huojin, and a cute little couple of Grant Conbolt with Neva (which was even more adorable because Grant was only four and Neva was eight). I smiled when I saw Grant trip and Neva helped him back up. I felt oddly out of place with Storm, and it was unusual.

"Hey, Storm?" I asked him quietly.

Storm's head leaned in close to my ear. "Yes?" He whispered.

I shivered uncomfortably. "I shouldn't be asking this... but.... but what were you and Camilla talking about when I walked outside? I'm not okay with you guys keeping secrets and not telling me."

"But Nashi," He spun me again. "We all have secrets."

"I understand that, but most times the ones you're keeping secrets from won't hear you." I retorted. "I did."

Storm frowned. "And how do you know that we were talking about you?"

I blushed, remembering my proof. "Because..." Storm's blue gaze seemed to pierce my soul. "Camilla said, 'because she loves you'... And, well... yeah."

Storm didn't answer. He was taunting me like this on purpose, I know, and I hated it so much. He could never seem to give me a straightforward answer. He just dropped small fragments of sentences and clues, just enough so I wouldn't figure it out. He was so frustrating!

"I'm not going to tell you. It's not of your concern."

That's it.

I ripped my hand from his, pulled his hand from my waist, and walked away. No--, ran away. I ran through the groups of people, past the kitchen and right out the front door. Some party this was! I've had enough. I'm done with that boy, and frankly, I don't care what the secret is any more. I'm not going to let him mess with me again.

"Nashi! Nashima Dragneel!"

He was calling for me. I'm surprised he cared enough to anyway. I didn't look back, not until I reached the very end of the Redfox property. Storm was looking at me from the top of the stairs that lead to the house. I was about to do something very bold, but sometimes people do things they'll regret when their heartbroken.

But I won't regret this.

I turned around, faced Storm, and held up my hand.

"Fuck you!"

And after that, I went home. Hopefully tomorrow, there will be an explanation of this secret. I don't regret what I did, flipping off Storm. He deserved it. He's been pulling at my heartstrings like a harp ever since the kiss when he almost died. He wants me to be in pain.

I'm done.
