The Exam and The Obnoxious Cow

Nikki's P.O.V.

"Nikki, wake up! Nikki!" I jolted right up after I heard someone call my name. I looked around and I found Kyo standing right next to me.

"What? Is it time for dinner?" I said.

Kyo shook his head. "No, that was yesterday. You fell asleep while studying before dinner. I came upstairs to get you, but you were fast asleep so I put a blanket over you, just in case you wouldn't freeze at night." He explained.

Oh, wow, I can't believe I fell asleep, and Kyo is so caring. Wait, if I fell asleep while I was studying....."OH NO!!! I'M GONNA FAIL EXAMS TODAY!!!" I began to panic until Kyo wrapped me in a hug.

"Calm down, you're gonna be fine. The more you overreact to these exams, the higher the chance that someone will find out our secret. And it's not the part that we're dating, it's that part that you'll transform. So don't stress about this." Kyo said in a calm tone. I took in a deep breath, then I calmed myself down. "Now, you should go eat, you haven't eaten since lunch. Meet me downstairs after you get ready." Kyo let me go from his hug, and ruffled my hair, then he left the room.

I began to get dressed for school. Maybe Kyo is right, if I worry about this test now, I could get to stressed out during the test and I'll transform! That would be bad! But, why did I fall asleep? Maybe I didn't get enough sleep the night before? I shook that pondering thought out of my head, then I continued to get ready.

I walked to the Kotatsu, where Kyo saved a seat for me right next to him. I sat down next to him then waited for breakfast. Katy and Ash showed up moments later, then hey both sat down right across from us. Both Katy and Ash didn't seem to be in the brightest mood today, but they also didn't seem to be angry from something.

"What's up with them? They're acting a little strange this morning." I whispered in Kyo's ear.

"I don't know, they seemed fine yesterday." He replied back, also whispering in my ear. I looked back at Katy and Ash, then they exchanged looks and both of them took a deep breath. Then they finally looked at me.

"Nikki, we need to tell you something." Ash said in a solemn tone. "It may be bad news to you, but it's for the best."

"Listen," Katy began. "We can't live here for the rest of our lives. It's only best if we find another place to live, like an apartment."

My heart began to beat rapidly. No this can't be true! I don't want to leave this place and go somewhere else. I want to stay here forever, if I have to, so I can be with Kyo! Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Kyo tense up. I guess that he is also upset about me having to leave.

"Now don't get mad!" Ash added. "We're still gonna be in Kaibara so we're not leaving to another part of Japan. But, I have to get a job to pay rent, because some bastard here took all of my money to buy a phone!" Ash turned her head towards Katy. Katy looked at her and awkwardly smiled.

"W-what? I only needed one so I can follow American pop stars on social media. Nothing else." Katy confessed, though I knew she was lying because I can sense when a person lies or not. It's kinda like a sixth sense of mine, besides the part that I'm a cat, and I have like a bunch of sense.

"Anyways Nikki, we need you to come with us. During mom's funeral, I'm promised that I would protect you. I'll keep you safe from any harm. Trust me, it's the best thing to do. I'm getting tired of transforming all of the time, same with Katy, Yuki, Kyo, and Shigure." Ash explained.

I felt a single warm, liquid slide down my cheek. Was I crying? Again? God, why am I so emotional! But, I can't leave Kyo, I love him and I want to be with him forever.
