Chapter 11:
(Maco)Mr. McPhee and Larry worried about my bruise, it was just a bruise. I know that it couldn't come off my face right away but they didn't have to make a big deal out of it! Mr. McPhee told Larry to not touch the figurines again and walked away with Larry walking in a different direction. I stayed in the figurine room, I raised an eyebrow and looked at the figurines; a little roman figurine was in the wild west section. I reached over and tried to put him back where he belonged but he was stuck! How on earth did he get there? I looked around to find Larry who was in the lobby asking Cecil for a new packet of instructions. Why did he need another one? I tried my hardest to stay out of Larry's way so I went up to the Egypt room. As I walked into the room, I noticed how dark it was. . . I touched the sarcophagus that seperated me from Ahkmenrah.
I always loved coming to this part of the museum and talking to Ahkmenrah's sarcophagus as if he could hear me "hello Ahkmenrah" I said bringing my face closer to the sarcophagus, no response "how are you doing in that sarcophagus?" I asked, still no response "your silence speaks a thousand words" I added, someone tapped on my shoulder and made me jump. I turned around to find Larry, I put my hand on my chest and breathed "what are you doing?" He asked, I pointed down to the sarcophagus "I'm. . . Talking to Ahkmenrah's sarcophagus" I replied; there was no need to tell a lie" I sometimes wish he was alive" Larry looked at me and back at the sarcophagus "really?" Larry questioned "yes I do. . . Anyways how did last night go? You said you'd tell me" I said changing the subject, Larry said he'd tell me in the morning and it was morning now so it seemed like a good time. Larry looked around, got really close to me, and beginned to whisper "it was crazy" he answered I looked around and began to whisper too "what happened?"
"Everything in this museum comes to life at night"
"Really?"
"Yes really, everything comes to life at night"
"Can I come here tonight and see"
"I'm not sure but you can try"
Larry and I stopped whispering, I obviously believed him, the figurines couldn't move so how did the little Roman get in the wild west section?I sort of thought that Larry was going crazy because he was whispering at the monkey in the tree saying "there's a storm coming". Larry told me before we left the museum that he had to brush up on his history in order to see what he was guarding at night. This gave me enough time to go to the hospital and talk to my grandfather. I sometimes hated the long walks to the hospital. But I really wanted to know if Larry was telling the truth so I needed the keys and the only one who had it was my grandfather.
When I got the hospital I just walked straight in. Some people stopped me so I sneaked my way up to his floor. His room wasn't hard to find because once you got off the elevator and take a left his door was right there. When I turned the door and snuck in I heard "Lucy is that you?" He must've been talking about one of his nurses "no grandpa, it's me Maco" I said walking in so he could see me, he was a small tan colored man with long black hair with silver streaks, his eyes were usually squinted, and he's been in the hospital for as long as I could remember "Maco" he coughed " it's been so long" I sat down next to his bed and watched him slowly open his eyes "too long" I said putting my hand over my eye "what brings you here lass?" He questioned, I looked around his room, it smelt like smoke and cinnamon, he had a water vapor on the other side of him to the air moist " Grandpa, do you still have the keys to the museum?" I asked, he gave me a look "I do, it's in my coat pocket. Why do you need it sunny?" He said laughing but his laughing was mixed with coughing "I made the president hire my friend and I jus' want to check in on him sometimes" I said looking around for his coat which was laying next to his tv "oh, I see. Take good care of those keys Maco, they're all I have little one" my grandpa said.
I got up and walk toward his coat and fished in his coat pockets; his pockets had a lot of gum and tobacco, I dug deeper to find metal; the keys! I pulled the keys out of the coat pocket and showed him that I had the keys "I'll make copies and bring them back tomorrow grandpa" to my surprise, he was asleep. I walked over to him and and gave him a dutiful kiss on his forehead "goodbye Grandpa" I whispered walking out the room. Now to see if Larry is lying.
