"Can't I miss one more day," I plead with Simon as we get in the truck.
"No, you have already missed five days of school. You don't need to miss anymore," he stated in in a stern voice, not taking his eyes off the road. So, I let out an exasperated sigh and stayed silent the rest of the way there.
When we were almost to the school, I started to feel really hot and nervous. I rolled down the window and to my surprise, Simon immediately rolled them back up."What are you crazy, it's thirty degrees outside. Are you trying to make us freeze to death," he questioned with i serious look on his face.
"Simon, I feel warm. Please let me roll the window down," I wined
"If you're too warm, then turn the heat down. Don't roll the window down."
Soon we are pulling up to the school. The first thing I see is Cassidy running up to the truck. That's when I spotted him, there sitting on a bench was cameron and his crew. Cassidy opened the door of the truck and I was barely to the ground when she engulfed me in a bone crushing hug. After saying one last goodbye to Simon, he sped off in his truck to work.
Then, came a voice I have been dreading. "Melody you're back. I missed you," Cameron said in a low conniving voice.
"Cameron, leave her alone. It's her first day back," Cassidy said stepping in between me and Cameron, acting like some kind of guard dog. Thank goodness for Cas.
"You know I'm just playing around. She knows it too, right Mel," he said putting his arm around my shoulders. What can I do, my worst nightmares are becoming a reality. There was a time when me and Cameron were friends. Even more than friends. After he cheated on me, we split up and he has been horrible to me ever since.
"Melody, are you there," Cas said snapping her fingers in my face and tapping on my head, breaking me from my thoughts.
"Huh, oh yeah, sorry. What did i miss," I ask feeling embarrassed.
"You missed cameron being a jerk," she said matter-of-factly. After a few minutes, we go inside the school and walk to our locker. When Cassidy opens the door, there is a dead fish and a bag of dog shit at the bottom of our locker. After screaming, I hear an all too familiar evil cackle.
"Cameron, I'm gonna kill you for this," Cassidy screeched with a tomato-red face. I giggled because, admittedly, it's kinda funny. Only because Cas's face is red.
"I see my little prank tickled someone's funny bone," he said with a small grin.
"How can you think this is funny!! There are dead things at the bottom of our locker," exclaimed an exasperated Cassidy.
"It's funny that he sunk down to pulling middle school pranks. It's just pathetic," I say trying to hide the real reason why I'm laughing. I'm also lost in thought so that is the best answer I can come up with.
"Huh, you're right Mel. This is something middle schoolers would pull," cassidy states, now smiling. After cleaning our locker and grabbing our things, we head to class.
At lunch time, I sit down with Cassidy outside. I'm already sick of school and homework. I just want to go home, but I still have to survive three more hours.
"Welcome back Melody," Cassidy's new friends zoey says, smiling as if it was summer vacation.
"Cass I should've told you that I don't want any sarcastic comments or encouragement," I say quietly before putting my head down. Then all of a sudden, i feel something cold and wet go down my back. I immediately jump up from my seat.
