"Tom calm down. We have everything we need and everything we brought with us," Mel says trying to calm me down for the millionth time. I'm just really excited to bring Nick home. We finally get to use the nursery that the guys helped us build.
"Sorry honey, I'm just excited. Not everyday we get to bring our first child home," I defend while making sure the car seat is secured in place before Melody puts our new little boy in it.
"I know Tommy, but you need to keep calm. It's good practice for when we have to be up in the middle of the night to change a diaper, feed him, or rock him back to sleep because he misses us."
"I call dibs on the first few wake up calls that he dishes out," I respond earning a small giggle from Mel.
"Honey trust me when I say that there is no way I would even dream of taking that away from you."
"Do you think he will like the nursery?"
"I'm sure he will love it Tom," She says with a small laugh before yawning.
"Are you going to stay awake for the rest of the five minute ride home," I ask looking at he through the corner of my eye. She nods and grabs my right hand. I bring our hands close to my face and kiss the back of her's. Shortly after I kiss her hand I hear a soft snore from beside me and automatically know she is out cold.
As I'm pulling onto our long, bumpy driveway, Nick starts to cry. It scares me a little bit since he has been so quiet.
"Nick, what's wrong little buddy," I ask him taking him from his car set after I have parked the truck. He cries a little louder so I put him on his mommy's lap until he cries to return to my lap. Melody woke up when he started to cry after I set him on her lap. She is smiling and takes the baby from my arms shortly.
"Something tells me it's going to be a long night for our little man," Melody comments with a small laugh. I nod in agreement before we all go inside. We go to the nursery and I change Nicks diaper for the first time ever. He hasn't been home for half an hour yet and he has already screamed his head off and pooped.
"Tom, why don't you lay him down in his crib."
"Alright," I respond before laying him in his crib.
Melody's P.O.V
I can't get over how tired I am. The hospital was really boring and I fell asleep on the ride home. We leave Nick's room with the listening end of the baby monitor and head to the couch in the living room. As soon as my butt is planted on the cushion, Nick starts to cry. I give Tom a look and he gets up to get him.
"Look buddy, there's mommy," says coming back with Nick in his arms. "Do you want a big kiss from mommy? I know daddy does."
"You're enjoying this way too much," I comment in an irritated tone. I didn't mean for it to come out like that, but it did.
"And you are way too grouchy and irritated," he fires back. He hand me our little boy and I give my little one a kiss on the forehead. Tom gives me a kiss on the cheek before he helps me lay down with Nicholas on my chest. I fall asleep within seconds.
I wake up three hours later to someone shaking my arm. I groggily roll over to find Zoey is trying to shake me awake. Standing directly next to her is Dean. They both give me a big smile before they do anything else.
"Melody, I'm so glad you're alright. You've been sleeping for over an hour now," Zoey exclaims.
"Zo, calm down a little bit. Mel just woke up and you're screaming at her," Dean comments wrapping one arm around Zoey's waist and putting his free hand over her mouth.
"Where is Tom," I ask trying to stifle a yawn.
"He's changing a diaper. He will be with us momentarily, so in the meantime, we get to sit around and talk," Zoey says once Dean releases her.
"Hey Mel, did you have a nice three hour nap," Tom asks coming into the room with our newborn son. "I know nick had fun while you were out. In fact, he had so much fun that her left a rather large pile in his diaper."
We all laugh at tom for complaining about having to change a poopy diaper. He sits down next to me and the others follow his lead. After a moment of silence, Nick starts to cry. We know he doesn't miss us and he doesn't need a diaper change.
"What's wrong little guy," Dean asks grabbing his little fist gently as Nick screams even louder. "Do you not want to be in here?"
"No, he's probably hungry or just wants his mama," Tom says handing him to me. I wrap a blanket around myself and lift my shirt before attaching Nick to my breast.
"Uh Melody," Deans says turning pink and looking very uncomfortable. "What cha doin' there?"
"Feeding my child," I deadpan. "I chose to breastfeed him."
"Dean why are you so uncomfortable with this? All she is doing is feeding little Nick his dinner," Zoey comments.
"Well for starters there is a baby sucking on a woman's breast. Second of all, the baby is sucking juice from a human body. How is that not disturbing to you guys," He asks us incredulously.
"Dean, if you want to ask questions, Melody will be happy to answer them," Tom interjects.
"Alright," he begins. " Does it hurt to have a baby sucking on your breast? How much milk can your body make?"
"It used to hurt a little but it definitely doesn't anymore. I can produce as much milk as he needs," I answer honestly. "Would it make you feel better if I went to another room?"
"No Melody, he needs to learn to be okay with this. It's going to be like this for about a year. Uncover yourself so that he can begin to get used to this," Tom comments.
"Tom are you crazy, Zoey exclaims. I uncover making Dean's eyes bug out of his head. Nick stops eating after about twenty minutes so I hand him to Tom and pull my shirt back down.
"One things for sure," I start. "My breasts feel a lot lighter."
We hang out with our friends for a little longer before they need to leave. We say our goodbyes before leaving to go up stairs. We put Nick in the nursery before going to our room. We lay down on the bed and just stare at the ceiling.
"Melody can we start planning the wedding so we can get it out of the way?"
"Yeah, but first you have to promise me everything will go smoothly."
"I promise that I'll say I do."
"I promise too."
We talk for a little longer before our little alarm clock begins to scream. I get up to get him, but by the time my feet hit our shaggy carpet, Yom is already our the door. He returns with a very upset baby. I move to the middle of the bed and Tom climbs in with Nick. After a bunch of scooting, we are all three curled up in the middle of the bed. Finally after all the suffering I've been through in my life, I fall asleep with my small family that are not going anywhere anytime soon...
