Chapter 12

The journey had gone by faster with Julian by her side, and the princess and the guardian shared many laughs on the voyage back to Mare's lake. The two, although total opposites,
enjoyed each other's company.

Luna was not afraid that Mare Equo wouldn't allow Julian into the lake, but she did fear that Ilios would not
allow her trust upon him. Luna knew her sister would have her guard up, she always did around whatever boys Luna interacted with.

And so, when Luna and Jullian came laughing into the clearing, Ilios was fuming. Mare Equo just glanced over the centaur and snorted, not quite caring.

"Ok so...Jullian, this is my sister Ilios- and that's Mare Equo."

Thrown from the comforts of her father's castle, and his heart ached to know that the beautiful girl possessed no place to call home. He wanted to promise that she'd never be lonely.

He smiled at IIios, offering his hand in a handshake. Ilios just gave him a skeptical once-over and turned her back. She felt no remorse, and tossed her red hair in rejection.
Julian, slightly hurt, pulled his hand back and looked over at Luna helplessly.

With a roll of her eyes, the ex-princess crouched on the rock and leaned next to her sister's ear. "Ilios, for the love of Vulturen, be polite!"

Ilios hissed at her, "Maybe you should stop dragging home a new boy everyday!"
"I do not!"
"Do so!"
"Nuh-uh!"
"Uh-huh!"

An aggressive splash from Mare interrupted the feuding sisters, and they huffed and turned away. Mare Equo would not have any drama in his lake. Luna walked over to Julian, who looked rather out of place as he splashed his hoof back and forth in the water.

"She's in a bad mood currently." Luna mumbled, folding her arms over her chest. "She'll get over it eventually."

He just shrugged, and looked up at the sky. The centaur was beginning to doubt himself. Perhaps
coming here was a bad idea. "It's, uh, getting late. I should be getting home to Glacies."

Disappointed, but humble, Luna nodded and scuffed her boots on the rocks, glancing down at her feet.

"So..I, uh, will talk to you soon."

There was so much left to say, and each of them just wanted to shout it out. But it was either too soon, or too late. Whichever one it was, the timing wasn't right.

And as he turned to leave, hoisting his bow and quiver over his back, Luna leaned forward on her toes and planted a kiss on his cheek.

And Julian, although guardian of ice, felt as if he would melt the entire forest.
