Chapter 14

News traveled fast in the kingdom of
Ficta Somnium. It spread from the highest
points, to the lowest, in a matter of moments.

So it did not take long for the word to reach Mare Equo's pond about King Poten's meeting in the village. A supposed recap on his personal life, and official decisions.

Ilios spent her night crocheting thick black cloaks for her and her sister, so they could attend without being seen. The two knew them being
spotted bore scarce chances, as nearly all in the nearby reach was at attending and the crowd would be simply massive.

Mare Equo was pretty excited for their journey to the kingdom as well, since he could finally receive back the news. He was never able to attend himself, so he was relieved to be at least filled in when the two returned.

At the crack of dawn, they were awake. Because they were traveling by foot, the sisters needed a head-start against everyone with their carriages and creatures with wings. A simple lunch was packed, just a couple biscuits and jars of fruit. Luna hoped there would be no entry fee to the gathering- but Ilios said that would never happen. Luna always seemed like the worrier of the two.

The walk was long, and this they knew. So with canteens of water swinging over their backs, the sisters tried to put off their fighting and try to push through the harsh trek. Between the scheme against their father, and Luna's newfound love- the girls were on edge with each other.

The heat came and swept away, in quick bursts and at first they didn't experience much trouble with it. But, as the neared the volcano and geysers, things began to heat up quickly. By now a lot of other creature were on the move, and Luna was in awe with the massive dragons that swooped overhead. One was accompanied by a flaming fairy, and she noted that she'd never seen an odder pair.

The peaks of houses were showing over the hills, and the exhausted mermaids felt a surge of relief course through them. Downhills were easy to conquer, and Ilios had a fun time rolling down them while Luna followed carefully behind.

And here it was. Although leaving early, the crowd was already growing. it was clear that some creatures had been here for hours, and Ilios was baffled on how they could just sit there.

They found their spots, in the far left corner. The two couldn't risk being spotted by their tyrant of a father. The crowd was filling fast, and it had been hours before they watched their father walk up to the podium. Hatred burned in their eyes, moving in deep
pools of cardinal. Such a shame,
to hate their own blood.

He cleared his throat;

"Firstly, I'd like to thank you all for gathering here. I am pleased to see such a large crowd."

A wave of reassuring murmurs followed.

"However, I am the bearer of bad tidings. It is with deep remorse, that I
pronounce my daughters Luna and Illios dead. Yes, an illness spread through my castle- and sadly my beautiful daughters has fallen victim
to it."

Luna could see the lock of Ilios's jaw, the wry frown forming. She placed her fingers around her hood, and
opened her mouth to speak with a breath.

"Ilios no!" Luna's shrill whisper hissed as she clapped her hand over her sister's mouth.

Ilios growled, peeling Luna's hand away. She collected herself, regaining her senses as she flattened her
cloak against her knees.

It was then were a sharp gasp came from her left, and Luna feared that someone had discovered them.

This was true, but no one they had to worry about.

The handsome centaur turned to them, smiling lit upon his face. "I thought those voices were
fimilar!" Julian remarked.
