Chapter 16
The guardian was a tough one, one who could handle a little bruise or two. but the flames of pain  that pulsed through his hind leg made even him groan.

Luna was only out for a few seconds before she came to, and when she did her only thought was to help Julian.

Ilios and Luna had straddled him with their arms, trying to support the weight of the centaur as they
burst into the clearing.

"Mare! Mare! He's been hurt!"

the wise creature cascaded across the dark waters, eyes narrowing. "Not even a day of peace. What's happened here?"

"I-I-I don't know. King Poten just attacked him!"

Julian gritted his teeth, "I...don't know how he found out...about the plan." his voice came in pain-strained gasps.

Ilios, if we were being completely honest here, didn't care so much about the Centaur's leg. She wanted to know who spoiled the plan.

The sisters set the injured male against the rock, Luna rubbing her thumb against his cheek
soothingly.

Mare Equo was developing some kind of poultice, whipping all different kinds of herbs. "The gash is deep but it did not tear muscle"

Luna sighed, guilt eating away at her. She should have never boughten  Julian into this mess in the first place. The mermaid placed her hand on the male's side with a sigh.

"I don't think this is a good idea." she mumbled.
"What's not a good idea?"
"Us. Look, look what's already happened."

He grunted as he sat up, eyeing her with disbelief. "You really want to end this?"

She heaved a sigh, running her head.
"I don't want any of this. And maybe,
one day, when this all settled down we can be together."

He reached forward, strained, and took her hand. "Look. Yeah; things may get rough but don't you think it's worth it?"

she nodded quietly, "Of course."

"Then why question it?"

She shrugged, silent. Finally, she spoke "Ok...just know that you signed yourself up for this." she laughed gently, wetting a rag in the water.

He sighed with content, laying back down on the stone as
Luna carefully pressed the rag to the gash on his leg. "Mare is making the herbs now.."

And Ilios watched this exchange from the other side of the lake, anger boiling inside her chest.

Here was Luna, oh-so-happy. But Ilios was left without her beloved Triberus.
