Ava and I ran to the Meeting Hall catching up with Cook on the way, the three of us made it just on time to the meeting (which Cook was still laughing about). We made it to the back of the room squished up against the wall, well the other two were I managed to get a spot between two guys, okay I shoved my way through even tho the two guys were giving me looks, I glared back at them and that made them stop. I didn’t like this meeting, I wasn’t getting a good feeling about this, I’ve been getting those a lot lately and it’s been annoying the crap out of me. But I was also on high alert, because I noticed men standing in corners of the room where people wouldn’t notice, they wore black sunglasses, black boots, bullet proof vests and I noticed guns and knives strapped to their legs.
Mr Thompson walked on the stage and stood there waiting for everyone to stop, one look at his face and the room went quiet.
“I have called you all today to talk about more changes for this Home,” Mr Thompson said, his voice even, and his face emotionless.
People started yelling out.
“-more changes? Come on!”
“-we already have to go to bed at eight!”
“-this is crazy!”
“Silence!” Mr Thompson roared.
He cleared his throat and continued talking, “Now I know you don’t like these changes but they are for your own good, I have brought some guards for this Home to make sure the killer doesn’t strike again”
At the last word the men came out from their hiding places and stood there looking at the room, the crowd whispered to themselves, I could sense the fear in the room.
“Ava,” I thought to her. “Got anything from the ‘body guards’”
I had no idea what to call them so I decided to name them that.
“Nothing, their minds are blank at the moment,” She replied back.
That didn’t surprise me there.
“I know they look frighting,” At that word a small smile appeared on Mr Thompsons face and quickly vanished. “But I assure you that they will not harm you in anyway, they are only here to protect you. And yes the police know about this, in fact it was there idea in the first place. As your safety comes first”
I quietly sorted at that.
“These men will patrol the Home, and if they ask you any questions or ask you to do something, don’t talk back this is only to ensure your safety. So other than that go back to what you kids ever do, the meeting is closed”
Mr Thompson walked out of the room, the ‘body guards’ following him. Noise followed the crowd as they exited the Meeting Hall. I joined Ava and Cook in the hall, the three of us making our way to the Kitchen, the only safe place to talk besides the attic room where Ava and I slept. No one said a word, but I could tell Cook was tense about the new change and Ava was disliking Mr Thompson even more. I could hardly blame her, he was after all-putting it politely (which I silently laughed at) was a jerk. A cold hearted-mean spirited jerk face. A smile appeared on Ava’s face at the thought.
We made it to the kitchen and Cook started to work on making food, Ava sat on a bench and I leaned against the wall knowing that Cook hated it when I sat on the benches, but he let Ava sit on them.
“Want help?” I asked Cook.
“No thanks Leo I’ll do this one on my own, besides I think you’ve done enough for your ‘punishment,’” Cook chuckled.
“What’s Mr Thompson up to now?”Ava wondered.
Cook didn’t say anything.
“Up to no good,” I grumbled.
“He’s not that bad,” Cook objected.
“Not that bad?” I said in disbelief. “He’s worse, the guys a bloody lunatic!”
“Come on Cook!” Ava said. “You of all people should know what he’s like”
“Maybe he doesn’t like kids, I haven’t seen any evidence of bad activity,” Cook said calmly.
Ava and I shared a look, Mr Thompson was more than he seems.
Cook saw our look and raised an eyebrow, “What have you two been up to?”
“Nothing,” I said calmly.
He stared at me.
“Nothing,” I repeated holding his gaze.
Cook shook his head and sighed, “I still don’t believe you, but I won’t bud in. Just be careful”
I nodded and walked out of the kitchen with Ava behind me.
I turned to face her, “This whole guard business is bull crap”
Ava raised her eyebrow, “Straight to the point”
“This whole thing is a set up so that Mr Thompson can watch you better,” I continued, lowering my voice so that people won’t hear.
Her face paled a bit at the comment, “Yeah but how do you know that?”
I sighed, “Ava think, why else would Mr Thompson do this now? He could have put guards in the Home before, but he only did it now because they know you have power, and for some reason Mr Thompson wants it”
Ava said nothing while she processed this, “Then I’m in deep shit”
I chuckled at that, “And that is why Mr Thompson has put guards into place at this home, and why we need to find out the reason fast”
She nodded at this, “Let’s go back to the attic room”
We started to walk when I saw movement out of the corner of my eye, and suddenly a bad feeling went through me.
Danger
I stopped.
“Leo are you okay?” Ava asked.
I shook my head and smiled at her, “Yeah I’m fine”
She stared at me but continued to walk to the room, all the while I was keeping watch. I wasn’t going to sleep well tonight.
