Ava and I went through the front door of the Dooms House to find Mr Thompson and Cook standing there with angry looks.

“I told you to tell someone,” I hissed in thought to Ava.

She didn’t say anything; her face was pale which said something.

“Well, look what the cat dragged in, if it isn’t the troublemaker again,” Mr Thompson sneered at me. “You aren’t allowed out of the house without telling an adult, this is most likely your fault”

At that one Mr Thompson glared at me.

I could feel Ava’s fear, “It’s okay I’ve got this”

“This is my fault,” She whispered.

I looked at Mr Thompson in the eye, “It states in the rules that children fifteen and over are allowed to go out if they tell an adult”

Mr Thompson evilly grinned at me, but I had a trick my way.

Or leave a note to an adult or supervisor saying where they are going,” I finished.

The grin was wiped from his face, “And where did you get this from?”

“The book House Rules,” I replied, which I thought was lame when I first read it for a punishment. I silently thanked the Headmistress for the punishment she gave me, it just saved Ava and mines life.

Mr Thompson raised an eyebrow not believing it.

“Paragraph 3.3 states it clearly,” I said and quickly added. “Ava left a note to Cook where we were headed”

“It’s true,” Cook said. “Ava left me a note and the book is in the Headmistress’s office”

Mr Thompson didn’t say anything for awhile and then he said, “Fine but you boy better follow the rules”

And with that he turned around and walked past Cook, he didn’t even give Ava a glance. I felt anger burn through me, he always blamed stuff on me I had quite enough! I really wanted to kill that guy.

Cook glared at Ava and me.

“That,” He said. “Was stupid”

And Cook turned around heading back to the kitchen.

I whistled, “That was intense”

Ava looked at me with worry, “Did we hurt Cooks feelings?”

I laughed, “No he’s just angry but Cook will calm down later, just leave him alone”

She smiled and then turned serious, “I’m going the room”

Ava walked through the hall and headed to our room. I was left alone to stand in the hall all by myself; I made my way to the kitchen. Might as well get Cooks lecture over and done with, every time I get myself into trouble he would go into this big talk about I should get my act together. Cook did this every time. I stopped at the door and saw him using the knife to chop up the meat.

I leaned on the wall, waiting for Cook to acknowledge me. He didn’t.

I fake coughed.

Cook slammed his knife onto the bench, his back facing me he said. “What do you want me to say Leo?”

I said nothing.

“You just have to make something bad happen don’t you,” He said quietly. “Sometimes I wonder why I stand up for you, but then I remember you’re a troubled kid whose trying. Now I’m starting to think differently, you’re making enemies Leo and trust me you don’t want that”
