We sat there staring at one another.
“What the heck is happening!?” Ava exclaimed.
She got up from the bed and started to pace back and forth, it reminded me of the Headmistress and at that thought I turned pale.
“Sorry,” Ava said stopping her pacing. “I didn’t mean to remind you of her”
I looked at Ava and sighed, I had to get used to this for some reason she could read my mind but I couldn’t read hers, but I could feel her emotions. She was feeling nervous and excited at the same time.
Ava made her way back to my bed again and faced me, “Were going get through this alright”
I smiled at her and nodded, I really didn’t feel like speaking.
“Are you okay?” Ava asked.
I didn’t say anything; I got up from my bed and sat at my desk.
“Leo?” She said.
Things were going through my mind at a hundred kilometres’ per hour, I needed time think. Within just two days I was bombarded with things beyond my control, I liked it when the home was quieter and all I had to worry about was not getting into trouble. But then I wouldn’t have met Ava.
“That’s right so stop being a wuss about it,” Ava commented.
“Will you stop reading my mind!” I groaned.
“Sorry cannot help it,” She giggled.
I smiled and opened my art book to the page where I drew my dragon, and there it was in all its glory. I showed it to Ava.
“What do you think?”
She looked at the page her eyes wide, “It’s amazing Leo you should really enter an art comp”
I shrugged, “I don’t really about those comps”
“You could win lots of money”
I laughed, “And do what with it? It will only go towards this dump of a home anyway”
Ava stared at me, “It’s better than nothing”
I sighed and turned my chair away from her, “But it just got worse”

A piercing sound in my ear woke me up; I shot up in bed like a rocket my eyes wide. I turned my head and saw Ava, once again, with her horn in her hand. I groaned.
“Did you have to do that?” I asked.
She smiled, “I like doing it”
“Go back to sleep I don’t go to school,” I mumbled and snuggled into my blankets.
I could feel sleep talking me, I smiled maybe Ava might let me sleep in...
“WAKE UP!” A loud voice in my head yelled.
I yelled in surprise and rolled off my bed onto the floor, hard.
“Did you have to do that,” I wined getting up.
Ava smiled showing her teeth, “But it worked didn’t it?”
I ignored her and went through my draw; I grabbed clothes and headed into the bathroom. Ava at times could be a pain in the ass.
“Hey I heard that!” Ava cried from my room.
I laughed quietly to myself while getting dressed, I looked at myself in the mirror and saw that my hair was in all directions. I brushed it with my hands and left the bathroom.
“All yours,” I said to Ava.
She raised her eyebrows but didn’t say anything.
I headed out of the trap door thinking Cook might want me to help him when I bumped into someone. I looked up and saw Mr Thompson. Oh crap.
“Sorry about that sir,” I quickly apologised.
“You should watch where you’re going, boy,” He snapped.
I felt the hatred return.
“And what is that supposed to mean?” I said back, glaring at him.
Mr Thompson raised an eyebrow, “Are you talking back at me? Typical of you young people”
I stepped closer to him and said, “And what if I am sir”
I spat out the last word, some of my spit landed on his face.
“Do you know the penalty for spitting at me,” He hissed.
“No,” I said. “And I wouldn’t really care”
We glared at each other, both of us not backing down.
“You should be careful boy, you wouldn’t want something happening to you,” Mr Thompson said.
The bad feeling came back to me: Danger.
A chough sounded behind us, immediately we both broke our gazes and I saw Cook behind Mr Thompson.
“Is there a problem sir?” He asked the Headmaster.
“Yes this boy is back-chatting I want him punished,” Mr Thompson replied giving a glare at me.
“I assure you he already is in trouble,” Cook said.
“Oh and what is that?” The Headmaster asked.
“Kitchen duty sir”
“That’s not enough but I suppose it will have to do”
And with that he walked past Cook and turned around the corner. Cook came to me and whacked me on the back of my head.
“Ouch what was that for?”
“That was for being stupid, you don’t want to make him an enemy Leo,” Cook said giving me an angry look.
“Well he started it anyway,” I mumbled.
Cook sighed, “Just don’t okay”
“I know,” I said. “He gives me a bad feeling”
Cook looked at me with questioning eyes; he knew to not disbelieve my feelings, I had been right a lot of times with Cook.
“That guys dangerous,” I answered. “But I don’t know why”
