Blinding light...voices...so much pain...darkness...

Blinking...more voices...light wasn’t hurting so much.
“Is he going to make it?” A voice asked.
“I don’t know,” Another replied gravely. “It depends on him now”
Red flashing across my vision, the pain comes...

My head pounded like a drum...with every breath it hurt. I felt tired and drained, I tried to open my eyes but somehow couldn’t’. Footsteps followed.
“Is he awake yet?” A voice I recognized as Cooks.
I felt movement to my right and heard a voice reply with a sigh, “No not yet”
That voice was Ava’s, Cooks footsteps came beside my bed, “Then we will have to wait”
“But we have been waiting for four days!” She exclaimed. “And there has been no sign of movement; will he be in a coma?”
Ava choked on the last word.
I heard movement and the scrape of a chair and knew Cook was comforting Ava with a hug.
“No Leo is strong, he will get through this,” Cook soothed Ava.
“But what happens if he doesn’t Cook?” She sobbed her voice muffled on Cooks shirt.
“He will,” Cook insisted.
“But what if?” She mumbled.
“He has to,” Cook whispered.
I tried to speak, to open my eyes but I couldn’t. My body was too drained and yet it had enough to let me hear, or was I paralysed? A sudden wave of panic went through me, and my heart started to pound while my head hurt even more. I heard Ava yelp in surprise and then felt movement to my right and left of the bed, someone’s hand held my right one. By the soft feel of it I knew it was Ava.
“What?” Cook asked, worry in his voice.
“I felt something,” Ava said.
“Huh?” He said, confused.
“Connection thing,” Ava explained.
“Oh right,” Cook said slowly. “Well then do what you have to do I’ll wait outside”
And with that I heard Cooks footsteps leave.
“Leo,” Ava whispered to me. “Wake up”
I felt her squeeze my hand, but my body didn’t want to obey.
“Leo please wake up,” She begged in my mind.
I felt myself going into the blackness, just a little sleep and then I’ll be fine, I told myself.
“Please wake up...” Ava sobbed.
At the sound of her sobbing in my head, I grabbed what energy I had left and fought against the tiredness, forcing my damn eyes to finely open. I saw Ava looking over me with a concerned expression on her face, but I also saw relief in her eyes.
“Water,” I crocked.
Quickly Ava handed me a cup full of water without letting go of my hand, and I gratefully gulped it all down.
“Thanks,” I said, my throat feeling much better.
“So you did hear me,” She smiled.
“Yeah,” I replied with a smile of my own. “I heard you and Cook talking but I couldn’t open my bloody eyes, I felt to drained to do it”
