A scream filled the air, I shot up like a bullet and saw Ava do the same. We both stared at each other for a moment before swinging off the covers and sped to the Headmistress’s office. We were the first ones there, Miss Nash was standing there her face pale. As soon as I registered that her emotions came to me, usually I have a pretty strong shield to protect me from that but her emotions were strong. They broke my barrier like it was nothing, a feeling of shock, panic and fear went through me and I stumbled into Ava, she steadied me.

“Are you okay?” She asked.

“Miss Nash,” I gasped.

Ava understood and went to her, she put her arms over her and Miss Nash started to sob, because in front of the desk the Headmistress laid...with a bullet to the head and blood flowing from it making a pile on the floor. I thought I was going to be sick, Ava led Miss Nash outside.

“What happened?” A voice asked.

I turned and saw Cook standing in the hall.

“The Headmistress,” I began. “Is dead”

Cook stood there as he processed the news; he went pass me and swore.

“Okay I’m going to call the police, make sure no one gets in here Leo,” Cook ordered.

But I didn’t listen I was still in shock, the Headmistress dead but why?

“Leo look at me,” Cooks voice shattered me out of my thoughts, I looked at him.

Cook came toward me and put his hands on my shoulders, I felt his determination and that helped me out of my shock.

“Are you okay now?” He asked.

I nodded not managing to speak.  He led me out of the room and closed the door.

“Stand here and don’t let anyone in,” Cook said. “I’ll be back in a minute”

I nodded again and Cook ran down the hall pushing past others, they came up to me and asked what happened but I didn’t answer. Clive came with his group of thugs but one stare from me and he left.  A couple of minutes later Cook came to me.

“All right the police will come any minute now, get dressed because they might want to get your statement since you saw the body,” Cook said.

I ran back to my attic room and saw Ava  already dressed sitting on her bed staring at the wall. I didn’t disturb her because I knew she was reading people’s minds, so I got my clothes and went into the bathroom to get changed, I put on a white T-Shirt blue jeans and boots I grabbed my black jacket and went out of the bathroom.  Ava was waiting at the trap door.

“The police are here they want to speak to us,” She said.

I nodded and we left the room together, we made our way to the Headmistress’s office. Her body was covered up, but the blood stain was there. Two cops were speaking with Cook when we arrived Miss Nash was sitting on a chair that looked like it came from a different room, and she had a blanket over her shoulders. There was a male and female there, the guys head was bold and he looked like he had been doing this job for a long time, while the girl had blond hair with blue eyes, but they were cold.

The guy officer had a notepad and pen in his hands and he was writing stuff down.

“Here are the other two who saw the body,” Cook said pointing at us.

The two cops looked at us and smiled at Ava while they narrowed their eyes at me, what’s it with me and cops? I must look like a troublemaker well they are right.

“Hello I am Detective Clark and this here is Detective Angie, and yes my name is a bit like Clark Kent I get that quite a lot so let’s skip that shall we,” Detective Clark said giving me a glare.

I closed my mouth.

“We would like to get your statements, so could you tell us what happened?” Angie asked.

I’m not going to call her ‘Detective Angie’ it didn’t really suit her like it did with Clark. We both told them what happened and the two Detectives wrote it down, but mainly Ava’s and mines stories were the same. While this was happening the paramedics arrived and took the body away, but the blood stain still stayed. After what felt like hours we both slumped on the couch in the Hit Room. People were everywhere talking about the murder, word got around pretty fast.

“I just got here and suddenly there’s a murder you don’t get that every day,” Ava said.

I laughed quietly, “It it to tough for you?”

She glared daggers at me which only made me laugh harder.

“A murder isn’t funny expressly when it’s the Headmistress! Who’s going to take charge now?”

That made me stop laughing, Ava had a point. Who was going to run the children’s home now? The Headmistress was strict but fair, what happens if someone nasty came along and took charge, what happens then?  I knew the shock would wear off sooner, but right now I felt nothing, I was numb.

“So what happens now?” Ava asked.

I looked at her, “I guess we wait or...”

“Or?” She prompted.

“Or we use what we’ve got and see what happened for real”

I raised my eyebrow at her and Ava looked at me with contained excitement. I smiled at her and we both got up from the chair went back to the Headmistress’s room, tho we weren’t allowed to do that because it was a ‘crime scene’. Well I hardly ever followed what anyone told me to do so I had no problem sneaking into the office.

“Okay now what do we do?” Ava asked looking around.

“Well I don’t really know that’s your area, don’t you touch something and get a vision?” I looked at her.

She glared at me made her way around the office being careful of the blood stain; Ava closed her eyes and put her hands on the desk. I closed my eyes and dropped my shield and focused on the energy around me, instantly a feeling of fear so strong rolled into me, nearly wreaking my focus but I forced myself to concentrate. Hate replaced the fear, obviously the fear came from the Headmistress and the hate from the attacker, but why hate? Did the person know her? Questions formed in my mind but I also got something else an intent to kill, but the intent to kill was meant to cover something up.
