"Allie." I hear Richard at my door and swallow four of each pill as fast as I can, almost choking on the last one.
"Allie!" I ignore Richard and put on sweatpants and a hoodie, feeling no need to dress up for him or myself. I open the door as I try and put my hair in a messy bun but give up and just put it in a high ponytail.
"You look like trash." I give him a fake smile.
"You look like a stalker." I retort.
"Put on something nice. I'm taking you to a fancy dinner."
"Actually, I'm pretty sure I cancelled our date." Richard looks like he's getting annoyed.
"Put on a nice dress and meet me downstairs."
"I told you no."
"And I don't think I ever gave you a choice." Richard steps closer to me and I flinch, sure that a slap is coming my way. Instead, Richard walks downstairs leaving me in fear and wishing he would've just slapped me to get it over with. I find a decent dress in my closet and put it on. The short red dress looks good with the shoes I have picked out. I quickly straighten my hair and wipe the tears from my eyes that I didn't even realize were there. The dress I'm wearing is gorgeous. My hair looks good for once. Even my makeup is good for someone whose hand shakes like a chihuahua all the time. So why do I feel so ugly? I walk down the stairs and try not to hate myself even more when I see Richard waiting for me.
"You look beautiful." I hear Richard say. I don't even attempt to fake a smile and my mom seems to notice as she gives me a weird look. I stumble down the stairs, blushing because I'm not used to so much attention.
"Where's Eliza?" I ask, looking around.
"You're not even going to thank your lovely boyfriend for the compliment?" I turn to face my mom, confused and a little angry.
"For the hundredth time, we aren't dating, mom." She rolls her eyes.
"Eliza's not home. She's at the studio." I sigh.
"Ok, go on you two! Have fun!" My mom seems excited but I'm sure it's only because she finally has a night to herself. I walk outside and realize how big of a mistake I made by not wearing a jacket or tights. It's winter in Michigan and I'm wearing a short, spaghetti strapped dress. I feel goosebumps on my skin the moment I step outside.
"It's freezing." I say as I hold myself.
"We're almost at the car." Richard says. I roll my eyes, thanks for offering me your jacket!!
I get in his car and am surprised at how unused it looks.
"I can tell you love driving." I say sarcastically, as I look around at the bare car.
"Funny." He says.
"Where are we going?"
"A fancy dinner. Like I said." Richard starts the car and begins driving.
"Yea, but where?" Richard looks over at me and smirks.
"Um, okay?" I plug the aux cord into my phone.
"Is it ok if I play some music?" Richard nods his head.
"As long as you don't play any music from your friend's band." I scoff.
"They're talented though."
"Yea and total jerks."
"Oh I forgot you were a complete gentleman. My bad!" Richard gives me a side eye glance and I put my music on shuffle. The first song that plays is one from Luke's band and I smile the whole time.
