Today was the day of my mothers funeral. She had died a week ago in the hospital. It was early in the morning and I was getting ready. I had an on suite bathroom to my room that I loved very much. I had taken and shower and was starting to blow dry my hair when Rob came into the bathroom, naked, and started showering. I glanced at him and giggled. Once I was done blow drying my hair, I loosely curled it with a wand. When my hair was finished I put on a beautiful black dress that went about mid thigh. Then I slipped on a pair of black heels. To finish it off, I put on a necklace, pair of earrings, and a bracelet, all that my mom gave me. I was deciding whether or not to put in more earrings. I had 8 piercings total. I had four on my lobes, two on each ear. I also had three piercings on my helix in the right year, and a belly button piercing. I don't put anything weird I'm them, usually just a small little diamond.
I decided against putting anything else on and went to check on Adam to make sure that he was ready. Amy said that she would be getting Jack ready and not to worry about him. I walked over to Adam's room where the door was shut.
"Can I come in?" I asked.
"Yeah." He shouted.
I walked in and he was just finishing putting his tie on. He was wearing black shoes, pants, and tie, but a dark gray shirt. I say he looked pretty handsome, even though he is my brother.
"You ready to go?" I asked.
"Yeah." He said talking a deep breath.
"It's gonna be okay." I said standing up and pulling him into a hug.
We both walked out of the room and down the stairs where everybody was ready. All the boys looked great, even Jack who was wearing a cute little button up shirt and slacks.
We got to the church where the funeral was going to be held and there were already many people there. My mom was a very popular person around town. As we were walking down the aisle, I noticed many football players here that my dad played with. It was good to know that my family meant something to them.
We got to the second row where we would be sitting. The ten of us squeezed together in the pew with me on the outside. It wasn't long before the funeral began. Rob sat next to me holding my hand the entire time.
"Now will Paisley, the daughter and eldest child of Jillian, please come up and say a couple of words." said the Pastor.
I stood up and headed to the podium where the built in mic was.
"Jillian Sue Wright was my mother, but that wasn't all she was. She was my best friend. I could talk to her about anything and everything. Whether I needed advice or just needed to get something off of my chest, she was there for me. When I fell off my bike and scrapped my knee, she was there for me. She was there for me through the rough and difficult times I spent training for the Olympics. Without a father around the house, she was also my protector. Her children meant everything to her. Without us, she was lost. She would stop at nothing to protect me and my brothers. When we hurt, she hurt. She had every instinct a mother should have. I believe she knew us better than we knew ourselves. She was a true mother. And best friend." I said chocking out the last two sentences.
As I walked back down to where we were sitting I heard sniffling from everywhere in the church. I sat back down just as the Pastor began to lead us in prayer.
When the service was done, we all headed out to where my mom would be buried in the cemetery.
We got there and they went through everything them lowered her into the ground. Right beside my father. They covered her up with dirt as people started placing flowers on her grave.
We were the last to leave the cemetery. As we started to walk back to our car, I took one glance back at her tombstone. There had to be hundreds of flowers there. I got into the car as we drove to the luncheon.
Once we got to the luncheon, the atmosphere was so much better. Everyone was just having a good time talking to others and enjoying some food.
The luncheon went on for about 4 hours, much longer than expected. It was so nice to catch up with friends and family that I hadn't seen in forever. I even got to introduce Rob to most of my family. My aunt Gena, who by the way lives in Florida and is 4'8", asked about our situation.
"So, are they two of you guys dating?" The short lady asked.
I looked at Rob, expecting him to look back, but he didn't.
"Yes we are." He said while smiling.
"Awe! That's so sweet. You guys are so cute together!" she said while going to give Rob a big hug, which was actually pretty damn funny to see. The height difference was what killed me. A 4'8" old lady giving a 6'6" NFL tight end a hug. When she let go, she walked away and started talking to other family members and so did Rob and I.
"You know, I really like her." Rob said laughing.
"Why's that? Does she make you feel all big and strong?" I said while letting out my laughter.
"I mean yes, but I don't really know what it is. There is just something that makes me really like her." He said as he put his hand around my waist.
