I had been home for about a week and it has been great. I missed these boys so much. I had missed Adam's 14th birthday, but he said it was fine. We did Skype on his birthday, so he said it was all good. But I wasn't about to miss Jackson's first birthday. Which was in a week.
We weren't planning anything too special because he wasn't going to be able to remember it, but I still wanted him to have fun. So Rob suggested that we take him to the zoo. I thought this was great because he has never been before.
So we packed up for the day and headed off to Brookfield Zoo up near Chicago.
Once we got there we decided not to push him around in a stroller. Rob and I would just switch on and off carrying him.
We got through the gates and paid for admission. Then we grabbed a map.
"Where do you guys want to go first?" I asked.
"Roar!" replied Jack.
We all laughed a little bit at how cute he was.
"You want to see the lions first?" I asked confirming his answer.
He nodded his head with a smug smile.
We made our way to the vary back of the zoo where the lions and tigers were.
Luckily, the lions were actually out and walking. Not just sitting around doing nothing. Jack just sat there very calmly in Rob's arms and watch the lions carefully. When we were done there, we just made our way around the zoo. We stopped about half way through the because we were getting hungry.
"Where do y'all want to eat?" I asked taking Jack from Rob.
"Can we eat at the rainforest cafe?" Adam asked.
"Sure. That actually sounds really good." I said.
We walked to the cafe and ate lunch. It was a pretty good lunch if I do say so. After we finished we continued on with the rest of the zoo. We still had to see the monkeys, elephants, polar bears, and the dolphins.
Once we had seen all of them, we were all pretty much wiped out. So we headed back home.
Once we got home I let Jackson open his presents. He just got a bunch of toys and other things for toddlers.
We all played with his new toys for a while before we decided that it was time for cake. I had already bought a cake for us to eat, and a cake for Jack. I bought a little smash cake for him because it was his first time eating cake by himself.
Once I gave him the cake, I lit the candle and we all sang Happy Birthday. Jack was laughing the whole time during the song.
Then, I helped him blow out his little "1" candle. As soon as I took it off the plate, he dug into his cake using his hands and face. It was probably one of the cutest things I have ever seen. We all sat back eating our cake and watched him eat his. Once he was done, I took a picture, and cleaned him up.
By now everyone was pretty much ready for bed. So I got Jack ready and put him to bed while Rob showered. When we were both done doing that, we climbed into bed together and laid there for a little while.
"I want to have my own son." said Rob suddenly. "I want to start a family and teach them what I know and watch them grow up."
"I do too. But maybe not for a little while." I said while rolling into his chest.
