A New Dauntless Legend

Chapter 31

It's been a week with Taren. Tomorrow Kristen is putting together a nice party. Kristen made it clear that we had to be dressed nicely.

Right now Taren and I are walking through Millennium Park. We talk about a bunch of random things. Out of no where this couple, maybe in there lat forties, early fifties, comes up to us. They seem so worried about something.

"Taren, we were told you died!" The women says sadly

Who are these people?

She tries to get closer to Taren, but he steps back taking me with him. These must be his parents.

"Taren, we do care about you." The man says

Now looking at the couple, Taren has the man's dark brown hair, the woman's light grey eyes, and facial features similar to the man. The woman is a little heavy in the mid section, but it's a little hard to tell because of the baggy Abnegation clothes.

"Yeah, says the people who punished me and beat me for no reason." Taren accuses.

Taren seems tense and a little frustrated. I don't blame him. He has told me about his parents. Taren has told me what they did to him. I can tell this is all an act.

"You two haven't seen me since my Choosing Ceremony." Taren explains

"It's only been a year." The women says

"It's been five years!" I say raising my voice.

Taren looks at me through the corner of his eyes. He quickly smiles but it also quickly goes away.

"You didn't even come to Visiting Day." Taren says "You two attempted to raise me. I ended up raising myself. You both aren't apart of my life anymore."

They both seem stunned and shocked.

"We have to go." Taren says

We turn around and quickly walk to the train. We jump once the train comes our way.

"Parents?" I question

"Yeah." Taren says

"You wanna talk about it?" I ask

"Not really." He says

"Okay." I say

The ride back is silent. Taren seems frustrated at the fact that his parents finally come and see him. It's been five years and they are just now seeing him since he has joined Dauntless.

When we get back I tell Taren that I have to meet the girls in the Pire. Apparently we just have to get new outfits for the party tomorrow night. Kristen is going overboard with this. She insists that it be formal-wear.

I get to the store that we said we would meet at.   Madison, Urina, Lindsay, and Kristen are all waiting for me.

"Sorry it took so long." I say "Taren and I...had to deal with something."

I walk up to them and start looking at dresses

"What happened?" Lindsay ask

"We bumped into his parents." I say slowly.

"Oh." Madison says

She knows some of what happened with Taren's parents. She doesn't know everything though.

We spend some time looking at dresses. We pick some out to try on. I picked out four dresses to try on.

The first one I don't really like. It's a dark red, one shoulder, plain, mermaid dress. I don't like it. Plus I don't think I can move in it.

The second one I'm not too crazy for either. It's a short, mint green, tool, sweetheart neckline dress. It has detail on the top, but it's not really what I want.

The third one I like, but it's not one that I'm head over heals for. It's a dark blue, aline, chiffon dress. The top has gemstone decals, and the bottom is simple. I like it, but no.

The fourth and final dress. I really like it. It's a black, chiffon, aline dress. It has straps that are blinged out. It has small gemstone decals along the top of the dress as well. I go out and show it to everyone.

"Taylor, that is an awesome dress on you." Kristen says

"Thanks." I say "I really like it. I'll do this one."

I go back into the changing room and change back into my normal clothes. I put the other three dresses back where I found them. I then wait for the others to finish shopping.

Hey y'all hope you enjoyed the chapter! The next chapter will be the party. I'm going to be wrapping up this book pretty soon. I don't know how many more chapters I will do though. Tell me what y'all think.
