Chapter 19

I walk into the cafeteria after all the transfers are done with the fear simulations. I sit down next to Taren and I notice that Carter is sitting by herself. That doesn't usually happen. Usually during initiation there is a few groups of friends and than someone from that group will get kicked out of Dauntless or dies. That group or groups will sometimes include some of the other Dauntless initiates.

After Hannah and Benjamin left, Ella, Wyatt, John, and Robert all became really close. Carter is the only transfer that doesn't seem to have a friend.

The Dauntless borns are always together and sometimes in groups. This year there are two sets of Dauntless born friend groups. In one of the Dauntless friend groups there are Olivia, Jason, Sydney, Nolan, and Henry. In the other there is Scarlet, Hunter, Erin, and William.

I get up and walk over to Carter.

"You know," I say sitting down next to her "during initiation is usually when initiates meet long time friends and sometimes future significant others."

"I figured. Considering Scarlet and Hunter hold hands all the time and sometimes kiss." Carter says.

"What's wrong? Why aren't you making friends?" I ask

Carter lets out a breath.

"I try, but they act like I wasn't even there. The transfers, don't seem to like me." She says with a sad voice.

"I'm sorry. Have you tried the Dauntless born?" I ask

"No, I haven't. I figured if the transfers treated me like this, than the Dauntless born would be worse." She says looking at me.

"You might want to try them. Trust me it will work out." I say

"How do you know?" She asks

"Both my parents were transfers. My dad didn't have transfer friends, so he made friends with two of the Dauntless born. Those three are really close." I explain "My mom had friends who were transfers as well as Dauntless born. You see that table over there next to the one Taren, the two other trainers, and the other Dauntless are sitting at?"

She nods her head in response.

"At that table are my parents and their friends who I told you about. Now keep in mind that they have all been friends for about twenty years." I say "Trust me, it will work out."

"Thanks" she says

"Your welcome." I say getting up.

I walk back over to the table I was at before. I see Scarlet get up and walk over to Carter. They talk. They both get up and go to the table Scarlet was at with Hunter, William, and Erin. They all introduce themselves and they talk. They seem to be hitting it off.

Everyone should always have a group of friends. Whether that be like three people or six people, it doesn't matter the size. They should just have friends.
