A New Dauntless Legend

Chapter 6

The party has been going for about thirty minutes and nothing has gone wrong. We are about to do speeches and then I will perform.

"Raylan, your up first for your speech." I say walking up to him.

"Okay." He says and walks towards the make shift stage.

Everyone sits down and stops talking once Raylan starts talking. He announces that some people will be giving speeches and then he starts with his speech.

"I'm not good with speeches, but here it goes. Mom, dad, I haven't known you my whole life. I thought I was just another Abnegation kid. Then I felt this urge to join Dauntless, to be free, to find who I really was. During my initiation I found out who my actual parents were. I found out I was an Eaton. Mom, dad, you helped me be who I am today. Yes it's only been about three years, but I feel like I have known you my entire life. I love you both so much." Raylan finishes and walks off the stage.

After Raylan, Zeke goes up for a speech, then Christina goes up for a speech, and once she is done I go up.

"Mom, dad, you've always taught me to be brave. You've always told me 'fear doesn't shut you down, it wakes you up'. I've stuck by that for a long time, and I think of it a lot. You two have made me the Dauntless I am today. You have told me since I was little to be the best I could be. You have made me the best I could be. Thank you so much mom and dad. I love you." I say and walk off the stage.

I walk over to my parents and give them a hug.

After a few minutes of talking I get a signal from Zander saying it's time for the song.

Uriah walks up on stage to start things off.

"Hey everyone. There has been some dancing going on and we thought there should be a special dance. How about we have the anniversary couple come to the front of the stage. Taylor will you come up here and sing what you were planning on singing?" Uriah says and I walk up on stage.

I see mom and dad give a bit of a questioning look while they walk to the front of the stage.

"I was informed that my mom and dads song is Bless the Broken Road by Rascal Flatts. So let's gets this started." I say and with that Zander starts the music.

There's a few seconds of intro music then I start singing.

"I set out on a narrow way. Many years ago.

Hoping I would find true love. Along the broken road.

But I got lost a time or two. Wiped my brow and kept pushin' through.

I couldn't see how every sign. Pointed straight to you." I begin and I see mom and dad swaying back and forth to the music and I smile even bigger.

"That every long lost dream. Led me to where you are. Others who broke my heart. They were like northern stars. Pointing me on my way. Into your loving arms. This much I know is true.

That God bless the broken road. That led me straight to you." I sing the chorus.

There is a while where it's just instrumental.

"I think about the I spent. Just passion' through.

I'd like to have the time I lost. And give it back to you.

But you just smile and take my hand. You've been there, you understand.

It's all part of a grander plan. That is comin' true.

Every long lost dream. Led me to where you are. Others who broke my heart. They were like northern stars. Pointing me on my way. Into your loving arms. This much I know is true.

That God bless the broken road. That led me straight to you." I continue

There is a section of just instrumental again.

"Now I'm just rolling home. Into my lovers arms. This much I know is true.

That God bless the broken road. Rant led me straight to you." I continue

Again, another part of just instrumental.

"That God bless the broken road. That led me straight to you." I finish and I see my mom crying into my dads chest.

I know they are happy tears.

"Mom and dad, I love you so much. Happy anniversary!" I say and walk off the stage.

I turn off the microphone and put it on the stand.

"You were amazing up there." Taren says walking up to me.

"Thank you." I say

We spend the rest of the party talking with my parents and friends.
