that skeleton

You rode the train everyday, going to school and home. For the past year, your Jr year, you have noticed someone new on the train.

He was a skeleton monster, a rare type of monster that you didn't see often. He always had the same hoodie on, dark blue with a fur ring around the Hood. It looked comfortable but what caught your attention was the look he always had on his face.

Tired, or rather a very tired look. He always had a huge pair of headphones on his head, taking  a seat at the very back of the train and keeping to himself.

At school he was the same way and you always wanted the same thing, Which is to befriend him, make him smile or laugh.

But for the past year you hadn't worked up the courage, you didn't want to freak him out or make him mad.

Today is the start of senior year, and you know that your time is winding down, after this year, who knows where he will be.

You sigh, as you read the text on your phone, and quickly replied back.

Your mom was going to be late for you today, she had extra work to do. You didn't mind waiting at the train station but it was always kinda creepy.

After a long day of new classes and annoying kids, all you wanted to do was go home and sleep. You opened your eyes and looked to where the skeleton is at, you didn't even know his name still.

You bit your lip and tired to think of what his name could be, but came up blank.

You blinked away the thoughts and tried to focus only to quickly avert your eyes when you realize that you're still staring directly at him and he seemed to notice.

You felt your face heat up and you tried to act casual, taking your phone out and flipping through your pictures like it is your job.

Once you get to your stop, you push off the train and make sure to keep a distance  between you and him. He usually got off and got in a car with someone, they left quickly usually.

You took a seat at the far end of the train station and watched other classmates leave, and other people, some sat down as well but soon it was empty.

You sighed as you pulled your phone up and dug in  your pockets for your earphones.

Coming up empty, you pulled your school bag up and searched around, then a brief memory reminded you that you had left them on your bed that morning.

You let out another disappointed sigh before laying back in your chair and leaning your head against the back.

Something moves in your peripheral vision and you turn your head, your breathe catching in your throat, when you see that the skeleton is sitting in the far chair next to the window and is already looking at you. He gives a lazy smile and you almost flip your shit as you try to act like you were just looking at something else but you knew it was obvious that you had been caught off guard. You debated on what to do, you could sit here and pretend he isn't there or you could take this chance to finally talk to him.

You toss your phone into your bag and stand up, with rubbery feeling legs you walk over to him. He has his eyes closed now  as you approached him, you could hear the slight beat to whatever he was listening to.

Slowly you reached out and tapped his shoulder. You felt nervous but as he opened his eyes you smiled warmly at him. "Hi" you mouthed as you pointed to his head phones.

He reached up and took them off, making you wonder how he knew where to put them if he didn't have ears but you instead said "what you listening to?"
