Chapter 17

I squinted my eyes as the bright summer sun shined in my face. I was covered in sand. I untangled myself from Zack's embrace and stood up. I kicked him in the side.

"Wake up!" I nudged him really hard with my foot.

He yawned and squinted his eyes at me."you couldn't of thought of a better way to wake me up?"

I rolled my eyes and he stood up. I checked my phone. 5 new messages and 12 missed calls from my mom.

"Where are you? You were supposed to be home by at least 12pm yesterday!"Read one of the messages. I erased the rest and Zack and I walked to his car, getting ready to go home.

I hadn't even been in the house for ten seconds and my mother was already lecturing me.

"Kiana, you know how worried I was last night?" She paced back and forth in the living room.

"We fell asleep sorry." I rolled my eyes and plopped down on the couch.

"Did you sleep with him? Oh my god please tell me your not pregnant!" She looked at me worried.

I laughed. "Mom relax! That's gross." I said sarcastically and stuck my tongue out.

She sighed in relief. "Okay, well get washed up, were going out to dinner with James tonight! If you like you can even invite Zack!" She squealed and winked at me.

I shrugged at her and walked upstairs. I went straight into the bathroom and turned on the shower.

A few hours later:

I pulled on my navy colored blazer, over my white poofy like dress..I put my hair up in a semi-neat bun, slid on my white stilettos and glided downstairs. Zuri was already dressed wearing one of her white and pink church dresses. Like my mother said I was welcome to invite Zack to dinner if I wanted and didn't say no when she offered the invitation. Zuri and Zack were sitting on the couch watching tv. When he saw me he got up from the couch and gave me a light peck on the lips.

"Ew!" Zuri screeched, and I rolled my eyes. Zack chuckled a little.

Just then the doorbell rang. I gave Zack a look and he went to go get the door. As if on cue my mother gracefully walked down the stairs. She was wearing a velvet colored long dress and her hair was tied up in a bun. To be honest she seemed like cinderella, my mother might have actually found her Prince Charming. James walked into the living room. His mouth widened into a huge smile. We all started to make small talk when my phone rang.Everyone looked at me and I just walked into the kitchen. It was an unknown number.

"Hello?" I leaned against the island in the kitchen.

"Hey baby, its Elijah." He spoke into the phone. He used the same voice that got me to fall for him every time

"What the hell do you want!" I blurted into the phone just a little too loudly.

"Woah. Chill baby. I just wanted to know If I could come over later."

"No! What the......I have to go bye!" I ended the call.

I walked back into the living room and everyone, even Zuri, gave me a puzzled look. I just shrugged my shoulders and walked next to Zack. Without any question we all walked out the door and into Jame's car.

The food at the restaurant was amazing. Everything actually was awesome. The decor, the service, EVERYTHING. We were now just walking down the park, James, Zuri, and my mom all hand in hand a few feet in front of Zack and I.

"Guys go ahead, We will meet up with you kids in a few minutes!" James yelled from behind, waving a hand in the air.

"Ok!" We both yelled back in unison and sat down on a park bench.

All of a sudden Zack's lips touched mine. I slid my hands around his neck and deepened the kiss. We were interrupted by my phone ringing. I quickly pulled away, and could see the sad look in Zack's eyes. Elijah. When we got to the restaurant i silenced my phone, and got at least five calls from him. Man, was he getting in my last nerve. I stood up and answered my phone.

"What?" I spat out, trying not to make eye contact with Zack.

"Baby I-" I cut him off.

"LOOK Elijah, first off, Im not your baby! Secondly I need you to stop calling me because you have no business doing so, so have a good night." I shut off my phone.

I could feel Zack staring at me and my cheeks burned with embarrassment. Without saying anything I sat back down. We sat in silence for a few minutes.

"Hey, wanna hang at my place tomorrow?" Zack said breaking the silence and scooting closer to me.

I shrugged. "Sure, why not."

With that, we both stood up, and went to go meet up with everyone. Walking in silence the whole way.
