EveryThing Has Changed

Chapter 9

Zack was standing there holding a broken piece of a lamp in his hand. That is what he had used to knock out that man. He picked me up and put me onto my feet so i was standing up. I was sobbing so hard. I instantly wrapped my arms around Zack and sobbed into his chest. I didn't really care that I was hugging him, I just needed someone.

" Kiana, everything's gonna be alright." He whispered into my ear, making a chill go down my spine.

I cried harder into his chest.

"I-I-I" I stuttered out, sobbing.

"Shhh" he rubbed my back comfortably.

He picked me up bridal style and put me into his car. The ride to my house was silent, except when I would cry here and there.As we parked in the driveway he just stared at me really concerned.

"Zack?" I said putting my hand on the car handle.

"Yeah?" His eyes were filled with sorrow

"C-can you um maybe stay the night." I looked at my lap rubbing my eyes.

"Sure." He put his car in park and turned it off. We walked into the door and went upstairs. I went into my parents room and grabbed a tee-shirt and pajama pants from my dads drawer. I handed them to him. I pointed to the direction of the bathroom. I peeked into Zuri's room and she was fast asleep. I went back into my room and slipped on some pajamas. I sunk down onto the floor bursting out into angry violent sobs. There was a soft knock on the door and Zack walked in. He had the pajamas on and sat next to me, putting an arm around me. And sobbed onto his shoulder. After awhile of just sitting there in silence I yawned. I got into bed and I was surprised Zack got into bed with me and sat up. He stared at me. I laid on my side looking out the window. If it wasn't for Zack i would of been raped. He was a hero. He wasn't such a bad guy after all, I should try to be his friend. After all He saved my life.

I woke up the next morning, the sun was peeking through my window shining on my face. I stretched and got out of bed. I put my hair into a messy ponytail and went downstairs. I heard Zuri giggling and went into the kitchen. Zack was sitting at the table, making her a little show with her dolls. I went into the kitchen. He looked up at me and smiled.

"Can I go over to Genova's house in 10 minutes? Her moms picking me up!" Zuri asked me getting up to hug me.

"Sure sweetie." I hugged my sister back.

I walked over to Zack and gave him a light kiss on the cheek and whispered Thank You, into his ear. He looked down on the floor and blushed. Thankfully Zuri didn't see. She was already out the door getting into Genova's moms car.

" Zack, I just wanted to tell you that If it wasn't for you I would of been r-"Tears started to fill my eyes, i tried to blink them away

"Kiana, no need to thank me I just did what I had to do." He got up and hugged me quickly.

"Also Im so sorry how I have been treating you like shit lately." I rubbed my eyes

"It's fine, maybe we can give this friendship thing a try?" He smiled at me.

"I'd like that. A lot." I smiled back

With that we went into the living room.

"So can you tell me what the man looked like?" The police officer sat across from me at his desk at the police station.

"He was an African American male, maybe about 6"0 tall, he also had an Afro." I told the officer

"So what happened exactly?" The officer asked me taking a sip of his coffee

"I went outside to get some fresh air when he just attacked me...... He was trying to......" My voice cracked and a lump formed in my throat

"It's ok Miss Williams, you don't have to continue." The officer told me giving me a slight smile.

"So whats gonna happen?" I asked him straightening up.

"We've been getting reports of attacks just like yours, that have been involved in the same area. We will do all we can to catch him, give us your number and we will call you in a few days." He gave me a pen and paper.

"Ok thanks." I wrote my number and name and stood up.

"Your a brave girl Kiana, most girls would be to scared to tell anyone." He gave my shoulder a squeeze and walked in the other direction.

I met Zack at the front door and we walked out together. We walked in silence and then we went to the park across the street and sat on a bench. Zack was staring at me.

"What?" I asked him annoyed

"Are you sure your ok? If you want I can stay over a while. Would your parents be ok with it?" He smiled a little

"My parents haven't contacted me in over 3 weeks, i have to make my own choices. Sure you can stay over if you want....." I looked at my black and red Jordan's.

"Ok cool." He looked at the sky.

"Cool." I repeated back and left it at that.

Zack, Zuri, and I were all sitting at table finishing off a box of pizza. Zuri was coloring and Zack got up and was washing off the plates and putting them into the dish washer. It was 8:30 pm and that met it was Zuri's bed time. I made her put on her pjs before we ate. I picked her up and took her to her room. I tucked her in.

"Kiana?" Zuri asked me from under her covers

"Yeah?" I put her stuffed animals around her

"When is mom and dad coming back?" She sat up.

"I don't know." And I was being completely honest because I really didn't know when they were coming back.

Before she could say anything else I turned off her light and shut her door. I turned around and bumped into Zack.

"Oh sorry." I said embarrassed.

"It's ok, well im gonna head home." He smiled then yawned.

"Oh ok." I was a little sad, i had to admit.

"Text me if you need anything." He started towards the stairs.

"Ok." I said,"Good night."

"Night." He said and left.

I went downstairs and locked the door. I laid on the couch with a pillow and blanket. And fell asleep from the hypnotic sounds of the crickets chirping.
