Chapter 27

As I walked into my house with connor, Zuri greeted me at the door, wrapping her frail arms around my waist. Connor had offered to help babysit so I wouldn't be alone. My mom walked over to us wearing her baking apron. She smiled at Connor and I, and gave us both a hug.

"Hello Connor, Its good to see you." My mom greeted and smiled.

"Hi Ms. Williams, Its nice to see you too."

"Ok kids, so there's cookies in the kitchen and please don't make a mess. Make sure Zuri's in bed by 8:30 and don't give her to much sugar. Also numbers are on the fridge like always. Don't hesitate to call James or I." My mom told us and slid off her apron, then gave Zuri a hug and a kiss.

"Are you ready to go?" James suddenly appeared from the kitchen also. He saw Connor and I and smiled at us

"Yeah, let me just grab my purse." My mother said, then James kissed her.

As If on cue, Zuri, Connor, and I all screamed.

"EWWW! THERE ARE CHILDREN IN HERE!" I screeched covering Zuri's eyes.

My mom started blushing and James let out a chuckle.

{A few hours later}

Zuri dashed upstairs. A few seconds later she had 3 pink tutu's in hand. Connor looked over to me with wide eyes. I smirked. Zuri tossed the tutu's to us, and I quickly slipped mine on over my dress. Zuri put hers on then stared at Connor.

"No. I am NOT putting this on." He crossed his arms.

Zuri gave him stared at him with wide eyes and scrunched up her nose.

"NO." He slumped

"Zuri why don't you go get us tiaras to match our tutus?" I suggested

"Ok!" She gave connor an evil glare then headed towards the stairs.

I slapped connor on the arm "Just put the little tutu on and stop being a baby."

"Ow! And there is no way im putting this on." He scrunched up his face

"Fine. Ok. You don't have to do anything you dont want to do." I put my arms up giving in.

I ran upstairs to see what was taking Zuri so long. She was in her room sitting on the floor with her face in her hands. How did she go from being a bubbly little girl, to being sad within a matter of minutes.

"Zuri whats wrong? " I crouched down beside her and wrapped my arms around her.

"Nothing." She sniffled and rubbed her eyes.

"Come on squirt whats on your mind." I pulled her closer to me so that way she was on my lap.

"I was just looking for the tiaras, then I remembered daddy brought them for me. I really miss him a lot." She started to burst out and cry again.

I held her close, and hugged her tightly. "Zuri.....Its ok. We will see him again soon, I promise. I know he still loves us."

"I want him to come home, I really like James, but I want daddy back now." Her big brown eyes were now red and filled with tears.

"I know its not your bed time yet, but how about you get some rest?" I rubbed her back softly

"Ok." She hugged me tightly, then got up and got into her bed.

I tucked her in, and kissed her lightly on the forehead. Just as I was turning around to leave I jumped up in fright. there stood connor in the doorway, staring at us. I closed Zuri's door and walked into the hallway. We didn't say anything for a moment.

"How about we go into the backyard?" I suggested

"Sure." He shrugged

We walked into the backyard and sat next to the pool on the concrete.

"You know Kiana, your such a great big sister." Connor spoke up.

"I try to be. Besides my mom, im the only person Zuri can look up to you know?"

"Well, she loves you a lot." He smiled

"And I love her too. I really do. Just seeing her cry breaks my heart. She misses our dad, and you know...I really miss him too." My voiced cracked and my eyes began to water.

Connor wrapped his arm around my shoulder. The scent of his cologne filled my nostrils and I breathed in deeply. After a few minutes he stood up. In an attempt to make me laugh he ended up falling in the pool in the process. I toppled over grabbing my side.

"OMG OMG OMG! I CANT BREATHE." I was gasping for air laughing so hard.

Connor sighed."just help me out the pool"

When I finally composed myself I stood up to help him. I reached out my hand for him to grab. He grabbed my hand, and then quickly yanked me down into the water with him. Water filled all around me, and I came up gasping for air.

"CONNOR NOT COOL." I was shivering and wrapped my arms around his neck to hold onto him to calm down from the current event.

After I controlled my breathing, I stared at Connor. He was just smiling at me shyly.

"You look so cute when your mad, you know that?" He said softly and smiled.

I stared at his eyes. They were the prettiest color. I never really noticed that before. I bit my bottom lip, and just stared at him. My arms still around his neck. Our faces were just a few inches apart. Connor began to lean in. Before he could do anything I wiggled myself out of his grasp.

"I have to go check on Zuri." I said quickly. I swam out of the pool, and ran inside the house dripping wet.

I mentally slapped myself on the forehead. Just as I was in the house, the front door opened, and there stood James and my mom.

"That was a really good movie! I loved w- Kiana why are you soaking wet?" My mom stopped her conversation to stare at me.

"Well Connor and I....well never mind its a long story." I shrugged my shoulders.

My mom wiggled her eyebrows and looked at James. Then james gave me a sly grin.
