EveryThing Has Changed

Chapter 31

"Great work today on your dance routine kiana" Wayne applauded from the audience as I hopped off the stage finishing up rehearsal

"Thanks wayne." I smiled wiping off my forehead with the back of my hand waving goodbye to the other back up dancers

"With the club being back in business we are going to get huge" he puffed out his chest in pride

I chuckled and continued to make my way into the lobby. Connor was sitting on one of the couches, talking to one of the managers of the club. When they saw me approaching the manager said goodbye to connor and they parted their ways. Connor stood as I met him by the couch.

"how was rehearsal?" He smiled as we began walking out to his car.

"It was great, im really glad to be doing this again." I buckled my seatbelt and smiled.

The drive was quiet. But I didn't mind. Music lightly blared from the speakers filling in the silence.

My phone buzzed in my lap

*new text message*

| Zack: late night on the beach tonight? Say around 10? |

| Me: sounds great see then |

Zack and I were finally getting comfortable around each other again. After all we've been through together we couldn't just throw our friendship away. I was fine with being single at the moment but who knows. Zack seemed like he wanted to get back together, but I don't know if im ready for that again.

"Who was that?" Connor asked suddenly keeping his eyes on the road as we stopped at a red light

"Zack, he just wanted to hang out later." I replied like it was no big deal

Connor opened his mouth as if he were going to speak but then closed his mouth once more. The ride stayed silent as he took me home.

My eyes adjusted to the darkness of the beach. Light illuminated from the moon and from the signs on the pier. My toes filled with sand as I took steps in my sandals. Zack sat on a blanket on the far end of the beach. I could slightly see him smile as I made my way over.

"Hey" I greeted as I sat down on the towel next to him

"Hey ki." He said, warmly.

He opened up his arms and pulled me in for a side hug. After embracing I laid down on the soft blanket. I closed my eyes as the smell of salt water and cool air hit my nose. I must've been silent for awhile because zack spoke up.

"You okay?" He questioned

"Yeah, just thinking." I exhaled

"Care to share your thoughts?" He turned towards me.

I sat up. "Just thinking about life." I smiled.
"Its really crazy how life can change any second. Your relationships change, Your thoughts change, Your perspectives change. Everything changes."

"Change is inevitable, you can never stop it." Zack spoke up

"I know, and that's the best part about it Zack. You can't stop it." I sighed

"You can't change what happened between us. The way we felt was something special."
Zack inched closer towards me.

"But people change. I've changed. You've changed. Its different." I slowly stood up, and not a second later Zack stood up too.

"Kiana. We can't just throw away what we had."

"We told each other we were okay being friends. We can't mess it up again." I spoke calmly

"What if im not okay with just being friends?" He talked slow and then realization hit him. "Its connor....isn't it."

"I don't have a thing with connor. Were just friends." I frowned.

Zack sighed and crossed his arms over his chest.

I chuckled "See that's it. Im trying to stay friends with you all because If I make one little mistake,everything is going to mess up." I ran a hand through my hair
"Good night Zack. I"ll see you later okay?" And with that I walked away.Nothing but the sound of the waves filled the emptiness of the night. As I walked alone on the beach I repeated the words Zack had said earlier

"Change is inevitable."
