Share Happiness
It is not enough to keep happiness within yourself. Often sharing this positivity reinforces it in your own life. Each day, compliment someone, whether you know them or not. Making someone smile in turn makes us smile. Spreading joy has endless
benefits and is one of the easiest things to do.
Read
Reading is one of the greatest pleasures in life. Through flipping the pages of a novel, you can be transported into another world. When times are stressful, a quiet read is the best way to dissolve our worries and help us achieve a clearer outlook. A novel I highly recommend that captures the human spirit is The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.
Exercise
You've heard it a million times, but what exactly is the link between happiness and exercise? Basically exercise releases endorphins and other chemicals in the brain that trigger positive emotions. It reduces stress levels and energises you after a workout. Above all, it can be a confidence thing. When you see the transformations in your body, you will feel stronger with the person you are.
Music
There is nothing better than listening to a song that resonates with you in a way that nothing else can. Music makes us calmer because it reminds us that we aren't alone in the problems we are facing. When you're having a bad day, why not turn to Spotify or Pandora and be mesmerised by the lyrical ingenuity of your favourite artists?
Write
For me, there is no doubt that writing is my one true outlet. Without fail, it has provided me stress-relief and a sense of inner strength. Writing is empowering. Thoughts swirling in your head are different to words written on a page; for one, the latter is always more organised and provides a clearer outlook on situations. You do not have to be a good writer or have perfect grammar. Let's be honest, English is a complicated language that makes perfect grammar a distant dream. The point is not how you write, it's what you write. Writing is a personal thing for me, and in school instances that same love is not reciprocated because it makes it impersonal. If you can find a way to make writing personal, you may find it very invigorating in a way a charged battery powers an iPhone. [If you do write something and want to share, I'd be absolutely thrilled to read it! It can be about anything you wish. Simply message me on Wattpad.]
Refocus
Put things into perspective. When something seems like a mountain to overcome, ask yourself if it will matter in a month, or even a year. If not, why are you wasting so much effort, when eventually this "problem" will be something of the past. Imagine your problem as a picture in a story, and take a step back so as to view it from a wider angle. Is it really that bad? You can get through it.
