A.J.'s POV
"Are you almost ready?" Harry asked for the tenth time in the last two minutes. He was annoyed, but I was more.
"You know what, next time I ask you to do something, pay attention and I won't have to unwrap everything and re-wrap them again," I snapped, placing the bow on the last gift.
He grinned, guiltily, preferring not to comment further. Once I finished, we loaded up his car and headed off to my old home since that was where the brunch was being held. This whole thing was a little odd to all of the boys, but they agreed anyway. Well, it was more like Samara forced and threatened everyone to go.
When we got there, we quickly realized we were the last to arrive. Harry, the gentlemen that he is, tried to blame it on me and my "girly way". That excuse didn't really work since Louise pointed out that he was in fact the one to take the longest to get ready, and she highly doubted that I was one for "girly ways". Normally, I would take that as an insult, but coming from Lou, it was a compliment.
I spent the first half hour or so playing truth or dare with Lottie. It was a childish game, but, we ourselves were childish, so it made no difference. Because our respective brothers and a few small children were around, we kept our truths and dares on a small scale. The craziest we got was when Lottie dared me to eat twelve deviled eggs. I got disgusted by the second one, but, I kept going until the twelfth, effectively making me the winner of our game.
By the time it was time to eat, I wasn't even hungry anymore, which Harry was thankful for since he had my food so he wouldn't have to get up for seconds. Sam had done a good job setting everything up and getting everyone fed. After we all ate and opened our gifts, Harry had pretty much ditched everyone and went to go hang out with Lux and play with her new toys. Though she didn't act like it, she was possibly the most spoiled little girl ever.
It was weird to see him like that. Not so wired as much as odd for me. He was a different Harry when he was around her, or any kid for that matter. I knew he wanted a family, not now, but maybe at some point. And I just couldn't give him that.
I had tried, to picture a life with him, with kids and a family, but I just couldn't. I couldn't picture myself with kids of my own, even if it was with Harry. Just the thought made me cringe. It wasn't that I didn't like kids, because I loved them, I just didn't think I was capable to love someone the way a child should be loved. I was barely capable of handling my present relationship with Harry.
"Ready to go home?" Harry asked with a small nudge to my shoulder.
By the look on his face, I could tell he had been asking me for a while. I had been so lost in my thoughts that I hadn't noticed the moment he got up from the floor with Lux. I nodded, following him to say goodbye to everyone.
"Babe, what's wrong? You didn't have fun?" he reached over the console to grab my hand.
I nodded, "of course I did, I'm just tired," I lied, sort of.
I looked at me for a minute, debating if what I said was the truth or not. "We don't have to go out tonight, we can have a night in."
I shook my head, "Chris will have a fit if we don't show up, babe. Besides it's his album release party, I can't, not go. And we've been staying in all week, which I don't mind, but I don't want us to get bored, eventually."
