Harry's POV
I watched as Katarina and Tommy enjoyed their blueberry scone we had gotten from the bakery. As my mum predicted, everyone loved Katarina. I mean, it was kinda hard not to. Most of our time there was spent with me hiding behind my hands while they told her embarrassing stories about me from when I worked here. She laughed hysterically along with Tommy. I didn't know why they were laughing so hard, it wasn't that funny. Well, it was but geez, there was no consideration for my feelings.
She had tried to suppress it, but I knew this impromptu want to go sightseeing was caused by Alice. I didn't see what the big deal was, sure, Alice could come off as a little bit clingy and what not, but she was still my friend, and I would never do anything like that with her. For one, I didn't see her that way, and two, I had Katarina. I had her, and no one else but her mattered. I hoped she knew that.
I loved watching her interact with Tommy. She was so attentive and loving, it was hard to not picture her not wanting a few kids of her own. I wanted to believe that I was okay with her choice, but deep down, I wasn't. I wanted this with her. To go out and have a family day just out of nowhere, to bring our kids over to my parents so they could enjoy them.
Maybe we could get a few dogs, I resigned myself from the possibility of actual children.
"Harry can you hand me some wipes from my purse please?" She asked, throwing away their trash. I searched through her purse until I found what I was looking for, along with something else.
"Babe, what's this for?" I waved the piece of paper with an appointment time and date on it.
She looked at it for a moment as she took the wipes from me. Her eyes went slightly wide before she composed herself. "I, um, it's just time for a checkup," she shrugged, turning her attention back to Tommy, wiping his hands and face.
I could tell she was lying, but I didn't know why. If it was just an appointment, there would be no need to hide it from me, right? But, who knows, her behavior has been off for a while now. This was just probably something else to add to that list.
We walked around the plaza a little longer. I showed them both the best spots that I could think of. When Tommy got tired, I sat him on my shoulders, holding his small hands so he wouldn't fall. It was kinda funny to watch Katarina freak out a little every time I pretended to almost drop him, which was his idea, not mine.
"We should go back," Katarina mumbled quietly as she held onto a sleeping Tommy against her chest while his legs wrapped around her waist and his arms were safely tucked away between them both.
"He's going to miss the light show," I complained, sitting closer to her on the bench facing the main street.
"I know, but he fell asleep," she whispered, kissing the top of his head as she rocked him softly back and forth.
I nodded, taking him from her and making our way back to my car. I settled him in his car seat, buckling him up and shutting the door. He shuffled a little in his seat, but didn't wake up.
"Thank you for today," Katarina spoke softly as I settled myself in my seat, leaning over the console to kiss my cheek. "And I'm sorry I do not like Alice, I know she's your friend. I promise to try and be nicer," she added.
I nodded, returning the kiss. I wanted to tell her that it was fine and she didn't have to like anyone she didn't want to for my sake, but I just couldn't find the words.
