I had just received some...rather interesting news. I had just came home from work, a bit tired. I wanted to lay down and sleep but I had chores to do. Sky was practicing walking around again. She is a determined little one.
Anyways, I was washing the dishes when I heard the doorbell ring. Who could that be, I thought. I turned off the faucet and dried my hands. I opened up the door. I was shocked to see Dominique standing in front of me. She didn't look to good either. Her make up was smeared and wet from all the tears coming from her face.
"Dominique" I said. "It's a surprise to see you here today."
"May I come in?" She sniffled.
"Um... Sure, I guess I don't see why not." I invited her inside. She sat down on the couch. I closed the door behind me. "Do you want anything? Water, juice...tissues?"
"Tissues and water, please." I nodded. I went into the kitchen. I poured her a glass of water and grabbed the tissue box. I came back with them. She smiled. "Thank you." She said. She drank from the glass.
"No problem." I replied. "Dominique, I don't want to sound rude at all asking this, but, um... Why are are you here?"
"I know, I'm sorry for just intruding like this." She sniffled and wiped her nose. "Freddie gave me your address. I just wanted to speak to a woman. Veronica was busy, and Chrissie and Brian aren't doing to good either."
"Thats fine, then. You can talk to me."
"Thank you. But, um, Roger and I...w-we are done. It's over."
"What do you mean its already over, you two just got married."
"I know, I know, but, he was seeing another woman. And he left me for her." My mouth dropped open.
"What? How long has he known her."
"A year. A fucking year." She sniffled again. "And she is also such a sexy model too. So of course for Roger..." Her lips quivered.
"I am so sorry"
"It's fine." She took out a cigarette. "May I?" She asked. I allowed her. She took a puff from her cigarette. "You..probably must be heartbroken as well."
"Not heart broken, just shocked he would do that to you after you just got married."
"You really don't feel hurt in anyway?"
"Dominique, Roger and I haven't spoken in a year, I don't think I should feel anything towards him. Besides, I've met someone new."
"Quite the coincidence" she scoffed
"I'm sorry?"
"Its been a year since you two have spoken, they've been together for almost a year, he was probably just trying to cope with his feelings. I just wish I could have helped him." She began to sob.
"But you did try, I'm sure you did, maybe he just didn't appreciate it enough."
"Maybe" She sighed. She chuckled. "Nothing just isn't good enough for him is it?"
"Apparently not" I laughed.
"Thats just Roger. I don't think he'll ever change."
"Maybe he will. We'll see."
From around the corner, Sky came stumbling towards us without the help of tables and chair. She was smiling so much it was hard for her to balance herself and sat back down. Her very first steps, at the worst possible time.
Dominique looked at her curiously.
"Her eyes are rather...blue." She said. Then her eyes slowly lit up. She turned towards me. "Roger said his baby died that day."
"I know."
"That it was a stillborn."
"I know"
"He doesn't know about his daughter?"
"Only because I don't want her bear all this drama and crap. Thats why we moved so far. We're actually planning on moving back to San Diego. Please, don't tell him. I beg you."
"Dahlia, I know how hard things can get, but Roger is a great father, really. He loves the children he has now."
"And he's leaving them for a model. Please, please don't tell him." She sighed.
"Alright, your secret is safe with me, I promise."
"Thank you."
"Can I meet her?"
"Of course." I called Sky. She crawled to us. I picked her up and gave her to Dominique. She played with her for a while.
Two people already know. This was getting risky. We need to move soon.
