Marie's POV
"ISAAC WAIT!" Maxx yelled to the crying prince. Moony barked after her.
"Leave him to be, he's heartbroken," Ranie said as she placed her hand on Maxx's shoulder.
"You're right...," The husky said turning to the dead body.
All the royal guards and servants dashed to the courtyard to see their king dead.
"What are you doing here kids?" A deep and formal voice asked. It was a palace guard who had a neatly trimmed, black, clear chin, short black hair and pale lips. He was armed with a sheathed spear and his armour glistened in the sun.
"Sorry, what's your name?" I asked.
"My name is Robert. Now please answer my question."
"Okay Robert... We are really really really close friends of Isaac. We were summoned to the castle moments ago," Leonora explained.
"I see... Well you better get home and prepare...," Robert said turning to James, "for the wake of our king."
"Okay them mister," Ranie said sarcastically. "See ya later gator!"
Leonora grabbed my hand and we walked out of the castle.
"If only we came sooner...," Leonora sighed. "James would still be alive."
"Yes, all out travel for nothing...," Ranie complained.
"What caused his death again?" I asked.
"There was an arrow to his heart," Maxx explained.
Moony made a whimpering sound behind my legs.
"Blegh, bloodshed," Jacob said with a disgusted face.
"But the real question is, who killed James?" I asked.
"Let's just ask Isaac later, we have to prepare for the wake," Leonora snapped.
(A few minutes later)
"Yes, okay sure. We'll meet you there..." I heard Ranie talking over the phone.
The fox and I were at her house, preparing for the wake.
I tip toed over to Ranie's room, which was across mine, to find that her door closed shut. I placed my ear on the door for me to hear the conversation.
"Wait, you found out?" Ranie's muffled voice said.
Found out what? I wondered.
I dashed to my room and carefully picked up the phone to secretly hear the full conversation. It was between Ranie and Maxx.
"... And it was his fault..." Maxx said.
"So let me get this straight, it was Hunter who killed James?" Ranie said.
Hunter? Of course! Why didn't we think of that before? It was so obvious!
"Yes, it was Hunter, it's all his fault," Maxx replied.
I really wanted to scream "HOW DARE HUNTER!" Over the phone, but I kept myself silenced.
