Chapter 2: The Secret

Ranie dragging me down the staircase made me look like her little rag doll.

"Can you please stop dragging me? It's really annoying," I said.

Ranie slowed down. "Sorry."

I sighed and made her go in front of me. Fluffy fox ears and a bushy tail was not visible to my sight.

It instantly reminded me of the past, when we were nine years old to be exact, we were chosen to fine The Tree of Life. We needed its leaves to save Fructum from disastrous calamities.

Why at a very young age? Only childen can see this mystical tree.

Of course, Ranie and I weren't picked randomly, we had to take a test. That test made us have powers and animalistic characteristics.

Majority of the people in Fructum are Hybrids or they have powers and animalistic characteristics.

No, We're not those creatures who have animals for their bodies. I only have the ears, tail and skills of the animal.

In my case, I am a zebra. So I'm a fast runner, I'm smart and tactical too. I also have a pair of zebra ears and a tail. My element is electriciy.

Ranie is a fox; she's sly and sneaky. Smart too. She also has the ears and the tail of the fox. Her element is fire. Her brother, Jacob Accendo, is a dragon and has the same element as her. The only difference between their fires are Ranie's fire is blue and Jacob's fire is gold.

Another thing you should know, Fructum has magical borders. We can use our powers inside Fructum but nobody could see our Hybird characteristics.

Yep, three years ago that happened, but it seemed so recent that I remember every detail of our adventure.

"Marie, try to catch up will ya?" Ranie said.

I snapped out of my thoughts. "Sorry, I was just thinking about something."

"Which is?"

"Something you already know about."

Ranie stopped in front of a torch on the wall and pulled it, revealing a small crack behind it. She got a silver key and proceeded down the stairs.

"We'll need this later," she said.

"For what?" I asked.

"Can you just be amazed and move on?"
