"Did you memorize it?" asked the headmaster as he held out his hand, his grey eyes staring at three of them. His usually slicked back brown hair was now a complete mess like he hadn't had a good night's rest.
"Yes, sir," replied Sophia handing him the file. He smiled at her, making his five o'clock shadow more pronounced.
"Okay. You should get going. Did you grab everything you need?"
"We'll be fine," said Iris pulling Sophia toward the portal.
"See ya later," said Sophia as she jumped through the portal, Zander and Iris following after her. They hit the ground and stumbled for a second before catching their balance. They glanced around and Sophia let out a sigh. "This is definitely my house. It hasn't changed much since the summer. Let's go say hi to my mom." She began walking forward, pulling her suitcase behind her. They walked up the stairs and Sophia grabbed her key. She put the key in the knob and turned it. A click sounded signaling it was unlocked. She opened the door and a delicious scent wafted through the room.
"It smells like someone just cooked," said Zander and Iris and Sophia nodded in agreement.
"I'm home!" Sophia called out.
"Sissy!" A nine year old girl and an eleven year old boy came into view. They ran at her and tackled her into a hug. She fell back on her butt as they hugged her.
"Emily, Xavier, it's good to see you," she said with a grin. "Xavier, when are you going to join the academy?"
"After this year is over," he replied.
"You should have already started. I started at three and Emily started in the lower grades," said Sophia standing up and brushing herself off.
"Good. You're here. After break, you start school. The academy called and notified me using the mirror," said Sophia's mom, her short, brown hair brushed to the side. Her hazel eyes looked Sophia over, and then she smiled. "Well, come on. I made breakfast."
"All right," Sophia said walking in with Zander and Iris following behind her.
"Its been so long since we've had your mom's food!" Iris said thinking of how good it was. Sophia rolled her eyes, a small smile dancing on her face as Zander closed the door behind them. They walked down the hall and through the living room before finally reaching the kitchen. A big breakfast feast was on the counter and Sophia's eyes lit up as she grabbed a plate. She began piling food on it. Bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy. She sat at the table and Iris sat next to her with her usual thermos with blood in it. On her plate was biscuits and gravy, sausage, bacon, and eggs.
"I'm relieved you no longer pour your blood on the food," said Sophia and Iris elbowed her.
"You keep talking like that, and I might just do it," she replied with a smirk and Sophia rolled her eyes and smiled. Iris's fangs came into view and Sophia glanced at her.
"How are you gonna keep those hidden when we're at school? They come out automatically when you start to eat."
"I've gotten better at hiding them," she replied.
"Oh, by the way, I bought you a truck and three motorcycles like you asked," said Sophia's mother, Marissa, tossing her the keys. Sophia caught them and grinned. She handed Zander and Iris the keys to their motorcycles.
"Awesome! After I get done eating, do you wanna go help me deck them out?" asked Sophia looking over at Iris.
"Sure."
"You're new laptops are in Sophia's room. I got one for each of you," Marissa informed.
"You come up with everything," said Zander as he took a bite of his food.
"I also went and bought Iris and Zander some new clothes. Your book bags are in Sophia's closet and the extra beds are set up."
"You literally thought of everything, mom," Sophia said with a small laugh. "Anyway, sign Xavier up for the academy this semester."
"I told you I-" Sophia cut Xavier off.
"You say that every year," she said crossing her arms. They stared at each other for a minute before Xavier sighed in defeat.
"Fine." Sophia scooped the last bit of food into her mouth and picked up her plate. She put it in the sink and walked over to the fridge, pulling out a cold Pepsi. She opened it and took a huge drink of it while she headed for the garage.
"Zander, you can go set up the computers and make sure our weapons are working. Once you do that, put them in our bags and make sure they can't fall out. I'm going to work on adding weapons to the truck and motorcycles," Sophia said opening the garage door and walking in. She set her Pepsi down and walked over to the wall. She clicked a button and the wall began to shift. It opened up and inside was a bunch of weapons and tools. "Time to get to work." She grabbed her tool belt and put it on. She grabbed down rocket boosters and carried them over to the motorcycles.
"I'll work on my motorcycle," Iris said grabbing her tool belt that she put together the last time she was here. She grabbed two of the rocket boosters near Sophia and got to work.
"So, why do you think we were called on to recruit this guy?" asked Iris with a small grunt.
"The headmaster probably wants him to join our team," replied Sophia with a sigh. "As of late, it looks like he hasn't gotten much sleep. He's stressing over something, and I have the feeling it has something to do with our team."
"What makes you say that?"
"He's been calling on our team most of the time. He barely calls on anyone else's teams anymore." She started looking through her belt. "It's kind of like he's preparing us for something. Then again, I may be overthinking it. I'm really not looking forward to this. There's no telling how long it will take and-" She turned the wrench, tightening the bolt. "He might get too freaked out. We only have til the end of their school year."
"Well, let's do it my way, and become friends with the guy first. We can't just walk up to him and tell him what's going on. He's more likely to get freaked out that way." Sophia pulled again and then stopped for a moment as a question came to mind.
"We might have a bit of a problem," said Sophia. "The pack that owns most of the land. It owns almost everything on the outskirts and some on the inside."
"That's gonna be a problem."
"You think? Anyway, I'm gonna have Zander hack into the school's database and make our schedules. Of course we'll have to take Freshman classes, but I don't feel like dealing with bitchy teachers."
"How are you gonna be able to tell if they're bitchy or not?"
"I set up cameras in all the classrooms during the summer."
"What?! Why?"
"We both knew it was only a matter of time til we had to go to school. Remember, the academy nearly shut down."
"Oh yeah. I forgot about that." Sophia stood up and walked over to the weapons. She grabbed several others and carried them over to her motorcycle.
"Mom needs to restock on weapons."
"We have enough for our motorcycles. Anyway, let's go shopping later or tomorrow."
"Fine by me."
