Chapter 11

Sophia watched as the air ahead of them began to swirl, forming the portal to Hunter Academy, and their world, Certona. Sophia grinned as the headmaster walked through.

"Is he ready?" asked the headmaster with a soft smile.

"Yeah, he's ready," Sophia replied as she hugged her younger brother, Xavier. He hugged her back and walked over to the headmaster. He turned back to Zander, Iris, Sophia, and Marissa with one last smile.

"Be prepared, Sophia, because when I see you again, we will be more evenly matched," he said and she let out a laugh.

"In your dreams. Just make sure you do your best," Sophia replied. Xavier disappeared through the portal, and the headmaster turned to Sophia.

"Will you be going to princess Kaydence's party?" he asked and she nodded. "Try inviting Carter."

"He doesn't know about us yet, but he will soon," she replied and he nodded as he turned towards the portal. He walked through the portal and it vanished leaving them staring at the air.

"Why does he want us to invite Carter?" Iris asked in confusion.

"I don't know, but I'm not inviting him. I have a bad feeling something is gonna happen. We will have to be on guard when we go next month," Sophia replied.

"Do you not trust the headmaster?" Zander asked.

"I trust him, but I don't trust a newbie being at a party where we can be attacked," she said glancing back at them. "Come on. It's almost time for school."

The bell tolled, signalling the end of third hour. Sophia packed up her books and just as she turned to leave, she came face to face with Carter. She jumped a bit and let out a breath.

"You scared the hell out of me," she muttered.

"Sorry. I wasn't trying to. I just came to introduce myself. My name's Carter Jones," he said holding out his hand, and she smiled.

"I'm Sophia Davis, if you haven't already heard," she replied shaking his hand.

"Here. Let me help you with those books," he said grabbing two of her books, leaving her with one.

"Oh, uh, thanks."

"No problem," he replied as they started walking out of the room. "So, why are you carrying around so many books, anyway?"

"Blaze wouldn't let me get into my locker."

"Oh, that jerk? Why?"

"I don't know," she lied.

"Be careful around him. Well, not him, but his girlfriend will get jealous. She's the head cheerleader."

"That's typical," she replied and he let out a laugh as they reached her locker.

"Uhm, so, do you want to eat with my friends and me at lunch?" She grabbed both of her books from him and shoved them in her locker.

"Yeah. That sounds like fun."

"Hey, Sophia," said Iris as she walked up to them. "Oh? Hey, Carter."

"Hey, Iris," he replied with a smile.

"Looks like we're eating with Carter today at lunch," Sophia informed and Iris grinned.

"That's great!"

"What's great?" Zander asked walking up to them.

"We're eating with Carter today," Iris informed.
