Sophia walked back into the living room, dressed in the clothes Carter let her borrow. They were extremely baggy on her, but she didn't mind.
"It looks like you were swallowed whole by those clothes," Iris commented and Sophia rolled her eyes as she pulled her hair up into a messy bun.
"Thanks," she sarcastically replied. The t-shirt was at least three sizes too big and the sweatpants were even worse. It didn't help that the legs went past her feet, which caused her to trip several times. Sophia plopped down in front of the couch and leaned back against it since all of the seats were taken. Zander, Iris, and Rae were on the couch and Tyler and Carter took up the love seat.
"So, what movie do you guys wanna watch?" Carter asked while Blaze let Logan in. Sophia leaned onto her hands and knees and crawled over to the entertainment center. She pulled out a movie and looked it over.
"How about The Matrix?" Sophia asked holding it up.
"That sounds like a good movie," Blaze said as he brought the brownies into the living room, on a plate along with some popcorn. Logan carried the drinks.
"You've never watched it?" Carter asked and everyone in the room except for Rae, Tyler, and Carter, shook their heads. "You guys have been missing out. Yeah, let's watch that." Sophia popped the movie in and backed up into her spot, which was between Zander and Iris' legs. Blaze sat near her to share one of the bags of popcorn, and Logan handed her a cold Pepsi. Carter turned off the lights as the movies started.
Part of the way through the movie, Sophia laid out in the middle of the floor on her stomach, her arms keeping her head propped up. Blaze laid next to her, their shoulders touching. She grabbed a handful of popcorn and popped some into her mouth as they continued to watch the movie. She felt someone's eyes burning a hole in her head, and she glanced around until she seen Carter and Rae staring at her. She tried to ignore the stares as she turned back to the movie.
Everyone's attention snapped towards the front door as they heard it open and then close.
"We're home!" a girl called out. "Why is it so dark in here?" The lights switched on and a girl with dark brown hair came into view. She had the same eye color as Carter, a stormy blue, but she looked younger than him. Her stormy blue eyes looked between everyone in the room. "Mom, Carter has friends over!" She looked to be around the age of twelve.
"Rae and Tyler are over?" a woman with dark brown hair asked. It was pulled up in a fancy up-do. She had on a simple white dress that stopped at her knees and was adorned with a thin, black belt around the waist. She was at least in her thirties or forties. "Oh, there's more than just Rae and Tyler. Carter, are these your new friends?" Sophia, Iris, and Zander quickly stood up as she looked over at them.
"Yeah. These are the three I was telling you about, mom," Carter said as he stood up and motioned toward the three, who were standing. Her gray eyes looked the three of them over, skeptical.
"So, I presume you're Sophia," she said with a fake smile and Sophia nodded.
"It's nice to meet you."
"That must mean you're Iris," she pointed at Iris and then pointed at Zander, "and you're Zander."
"Yes, ma'am. It's nice to meet you," they said at the same time. She nodded at them and then looked down at the two boys on the floor, who were now sitting up.
"I wasn't expecting to see you boys here."
"Why are you wearing my brother's clothes?" the little girl asked.
"Melody, it's none of your business," Carter replied and she rolled her eyes. "Anyway, Sophia, Iris, Zander, this is my mom, Olivia." Everyone stayed quiet and Sophia tried looking anywhere else except at Olivia. The awkwardness in the air was so thick and suffocating it could be cut with a knife.
